Schloßbergler when asking for a sponsor: difficult tests before the big party

This test has a long tradition: the Schloßbergler Valley have now moved to Westerham - to ask for a sponsor before the flag ceremony.

– Kneel on logs while enjoying a meal, answering tricky questions, dancing skillfully and always being nice to the “tormentors”: When asking for a sponsor in Westerham, the management team of the Schloßbergler Valley traditional costume association proved that they like an old ritual among friendly associations maintains - and that she is quite capable of suffering for the upcoming blessing of the new club flag in August.

The effort was worth it.

The Mangfalltaler Westerham, hosts of the sponsorship request, take over the sponsorship of the flag and will support the Valleyers during the festive season and in the further club life.

The background to the consecration of the flag is the 100th anniversary of the Schloßbergler, which was supposed to be celebrated last year, including the district festival, but was slowed down by the pandemic.

Now the anniversary will be made up for with a four-day festival from August 12 to 15, 2022. As is the custom, you have to find a new sponsor club for a new flag.

"We didn't have to think long about it," reports secretary VerenaWärmelsperger.

There have been close ties to the Mangfalltalers since the club was founded, after all the Valleyer founding board member Christian Ederegger comes from Westerham.

Even before the official request for sponsorship, the people of the Valley felt whether the people of Mangfalltal were interested in the sponsorship.

The preliminary talks were now followed by the official part: around 70 members of the Schloßbergler drove – together with the brass band Unterdarching – to Westerham to ask for a sponsor.

Just as many Westerham residents did not want to miss this unique event in the traditional costume and rifle club there.

Mangfalltaler put Schloßbergler through their paces

The Valleyers dutifully presented their concerns in verse form.

But the sponsoring association, as is customary, allowed itself to be asked.

The petitioners had tasks to fulfill.

In addition to the usual “kneeling on logs”, the Valley management team had a sumptuous three-course meal to eat – which pleased the palate but strained the knees.

In between, the Valleyers had to show whether they could dance properly.

Before the meal, Vorplattler Markus Utz was checked for his church qualifications.

Since the people of Mangfalltal found out that he had already visited the Pope as a boy, he had to spontaneously say grace.

Questions about the history of the club followed.

"They wanted to know what animal the feather on their hat came from." Answer: Gockel.

The last test was done by the guests' Plattler group, which showed the "Mangfalltaler Plattler".

"We had to suffer a bit, that's the way it should be," saysWärmelsperger, "all in all it was a great evening." The last hurdle was cleared when Valleyer Chairwoman Margarethe Cyllok tapped the godfather's gift, a barrel of Maibock.
