A thunderstorm area struck, with over 30 mm of rainfall recorded in some parts of Hong Kong this morning. The Observatory issued a special weather alert at 9:35 a.m. to remind the public that extensive areas in Hong Kong may be affected by heavy rain.

The Observatory predicts that there will still be showers and squally thunderstorms in the next two days, and the rain will be heavy at times.

However, the trough of low pressure will bring unstable weather again in the middle of next week, and the weather in Hong Kong will only improve slightly for two days. Thunderstorms will be encountered next Tuesday (14th), and there will be more squally thunderstorms the next day. Well, you can't hide it.

The thunderstorm warning is now in effect. The thunderstorm area associated with the trough of low pressure is affecting the Pearl River Estuary. It is expected to be cloudy today with showers and squally thunderstorms. The rain is sometimes heavy.

The Observatory predicts that the trough of low pressure will linger along the coast of Guangdong in the next one or two days, causing heavy showers and squally thunderstorms in Hong Kong, and the urban temperature will hover below 30 degrees.

Unstable weather after seeing sunshine again early next week

Showers will ease along the coast early next week as the trough gradually moves northward and inland over the weekend.

The Observatory predicts that although there will be a few showers next Sunday and Monday (12th and 13th), the sun will finally be seen again. The maximum temperature in the urban area will rise to 32 degrees, and some areas in the New Territories may rise to 33 degrees.

However, the weather turned slightly better and then worsened. The Observatory expects that the trough of low pressure will bring unstable weather to southern China again in the middle of next week. There will be thunderstorms in some areas in Hong Kong as soon as next Tuesday (14th), and there will be squally thunderstorms the next day. It will last until next Thursday (16th), and the rainy days will continue until the weekend, when there will be a brief period of sunshine.
