The activities of the “Subur” project to encourage writing and reading among children, adolescents and youth, were concluded today at the Palace of Culture in As-Suwayda.

The project was launched on the 24th of last April on the occasion of the World Book and Copyright Day, as mentioned by the President of the International Junior Chamber, Amir Al-Moaz, and included the establishment of a workshop on how to make book dividers for children from 5 to 10 years old to train them to take care of their books and a short story competition for the age group from 18 to 40 A year and a training workshop for young writers on fiction and fiction writing, and a permanent corner for the exchange of books within the Zarqa Al Yamama Library.

In the closing ceremony of the project, the participants and winners of the short story competition were honored, where Roa’a Al-Qusir for a story entitled “Nimrod” and Robu’ Jaber for her story “House of Love” won the first place, while the young Hind Harb won second place for her story “Free Wings” about underage marriage and the injustice that The woman lives it, and in third place, Layal Jazan, for a story entitled “The Death of December.”

The closing ceremony included a presentation of the experiences of the writers Farhan Raydan and Ahlam Abu Assaf and their advice for those who have interest during a dialogue session with the audience. The writer Adnan Azzam also spoke about his experience via video technology, in addition to presenting poetic paragraphs to a number of talented children and a lecture by lawyer Safaa Judiyah on the laws governing the protection of intellectual property For authors and creators.

Rita Azzam, director of the “Sutures” project, stated that the project was keen to highlight the importance of the book in our lives and to give every literary talent an opportunity to develop his talent while targeting different age groups and benefiting from the experience of a number of conservative literary and cultural personalities, in addition to achieving one of the sustainable development goals with regard to quality education.

The Cultural Officer at Zarqa Al-Yamama Foundation, Khaled Shalghin, explained that the project was adopted by the Foundation to provide many requirements for its success, which contribute to encouraging books and reading and taking care of them.

The trainer in the project’s writing workshop and the arbitrator for the short story competition, writer Rabih Murshid, referred to training the youth in the project on the foundations of fiction and narrative writing, indicating that the competition was based on a set of criteria for selecting the winners represented by the strength of narration, the ability to reduce and the idea.

The young man, Karim Mufarrej, 21 years old, found that through the project he got acquainted with the methods of fiction writing, and the aspects of reading books and acquiring knowledge were enhanced for him, while the young woman Hind Harb indicated that the project supported and encouraged her to complete writing a short story for her.
