The Turkish regime police arrested eight academics during raids in Bitlis province, eastern Turkey, on the pretext of their association with the opposition Fethullah Gulen, whom the authorities of Recep Tayyip Erdogan accuse of being behind the attempted coup in the country in 2016.
The Turkish newspaper, Zaman, reported that the prosecution had ordered the detention of the academics based on the testimonies of “unidentified witnesses.”
The testimonies of “anonymous witnesses” have imprisoned tens of thousands of people in Turkey over the past years.
It is noteworthy that the Erdogan regime has launched severe repression campaigns since the attempted coup in July 2016 with the aim of pursuing its opponents and opponents inside the country, as it arrested and dismissed tens of thousands of people, both civilians and military.
