Mountain art coach Lu Zechen has been involved in hiking and camping for more than 20 years. Three years ago, he represented Hong Kong to climb Mount Everest as the captain of the mountaineering team.

Recalling the journey to Mount Everest, Lu Zechen had an unforgettable night when he reached the summit. There was a small accident. There was no oxygen supply for more than ten minutes. Fortunately, it was solved in time, which was a little thrilling.

He believes that mountain climbing is different from other sports. Once you enter the mountain, you can't quit immediately. "Even if I am tired and scared, I have to face the present moment, and I can't just leave when I want to."

May 22, 2019, I believe Lu Zechen will never forget this day.

As the captain of the Everest China Hong Kong Mountain Climbing Team, along with the vice-captain Zhang Zhihui and team member Li Leji, he left the Everest No. 4 Camp in the early morning, turned on his headlights, followed the snowy road carefully, and headed towards the top of the 8,849-meter-high Mount Everest.

In the darkness, facing strong winds and enduring severe cold, the climbers challenged the will of the climbers, and they set foot on the altitude of more than 8,000 meters, which is regarded as the "death zone".

The air on the mountain is thin, and most climbers are equipped with oxygen bottles to ensure that their bodies have sufficient oxygen supply, including Lu Zechen.

When he reached the South Col, it was still midnight when Lu Zechen found that his oxygen was exhausted and he needed to change another bottle.

Lu Zechen recalled that thrilling moment, he said: "I had a problem with the oxygen bottle regulator. There was no oxygen supply for more than ten minutes. I had to deal with this problem in a very cold and dark environment. I felt my hands and feet began to slow down. Slowly freezing, the core of the body felt very cold, and I started to feel a little anxious, but fortunately, the equipment problem was solved.”

2019 report: Hong Kong Everest climbing team triumphantly shared the experience of reaching the top of the "big traffic jam" and waited for half an hour

He explained: "At that altitude, if the oxygen supply is insufficient, and we started from Camp No. 3, the oxygen supply has been started for 7,000 meters. There is always oxygen supply during the process. If there is no midway, it will suddenly have an impact on the body."

After going down the mountain, Lu Zechen found that his toes had frostbite. He continued: "I believe that the body temperature was too low when I stopped, and the oxygen content plummeted, which affected blood circulation and caused frostbite. If the oxygen supply could not be restored at that time, there would be a comparison. Big trouble."

Climbing Mount Everest, as you approach the top step by step, you are also approaching death step by step.

Lu Zechen said: "We have seen two climbers (bodies), both of whom died in those years, and they feel very close, so close, one of them, we have to step over him before we can continue. journey."

Despite being mentally prepared, seeing a climber's body in person is another matter.

He continued: "In that cold environment, he was very peaceful and slept there. I immediately reminded myself to be careful, take every step of the way, or you will become a landmark. I will reflect on the value of life and death afterwards. I learned a lesson in life.” In a place with extreme climate and environment, it is not easy to transport a corpse down the mountain, and if unfortunately dies on the mountain, the corpse may stay in place for a long time and become a signpost for other climbers.

Lu Zechen had never thought about going to Mount Everest before. It wasn't until 2017 when the General Manager of Climbing Committee proposed a plan to organize a climbing team to climb Mount Everest. He had this idea and signed up for a try.

He passed the interview, physical fitness test and written test, and was selected for training with 5 other people.

After going abroad for 4 trainings, some team members left for different reasons. In the end, there were only 3 members of the climbing team.

He said: "A friend told a joke: 'Why do the three of you have to be called the captain and the vice-captain, are you forcing a name for yourself?' Actually, there are not so few people."

Lu Zechen led the climbing team to the summit, and they took a photo with the flag of the Hong Kong Climbing Association at the summit of Mount Everest.

The experience of climbing Mount Everest inspired Lu Zechen's heart.

He said: "It makes me believe in one step at a time, you have to persevere and believe in your goals, and then you will be willing to do it step by step. This is a change, or it makes me more solidify this belief, and I will have a better understanding of my future work and life. It's good and very rewarding, give me a good idea."

After returning from Mount Everest, Lu Zechen said with a smile that his life has not changed a lot. He said, "I don't often show it off! I really feel that this is not something that is out of reach, I'm just lucky to have all Only those conditions can be achieved. There are indeed more sharing sessions, which are often invited by schools and institutions, hoping to tell everyone a message. As long as you have a goal and do it step by step, it can be practiced.”

He continued: "It's the same with being a human being. Sometimes you don't have an immediate retreat. Mountain climbing can train people's persistence and perseverance. Unlike many other sports, (when climbing a mountain) you can't give up immediately. On the mountain road, even if I'm tired, it's good , I'm afraid, I have to face the moment, you can't just leave if you want. The mountain will train you."

He has traveled through many mountains and mountains in the world, but Lo Chak-chen said that the most memorable and favorite scenery are Ham Tin Wan and Tai Wan in Sai Kung.
