Gilching - On Sunday, May 22, at 6 a.m., 32 members and friends of the Cecina Association set off for Arezzo in Tuscany.

Already in Sterzing, our bus ride was held up by a longer police check.

The appearance of our bus driver Jeri (bird of paradise) was probably too conspicuous.

After about half an hour we were able to continue our journey without any complaints.

Our first goal was a visit to the Acetaia Giusti near Modena, where the production and the different quality levels of the world-famous Aceto Balsamico di Modena were explained to us in detail.

At the end of this tour, various quality Acetos were handed out to be tasted.

After a tasty Merenda we went on to Arezzo.

On Monday morning we started with Alena, our longtime tour guide, for a guided tour through the beautiful medieval city of Arezzo.

With around 100,000 inhabitants, Arezzo is the fourth largest city in Tuscany.

We visited the Cathedral of San Francesco, Piazza Grande and the Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici.

Next we went to the hill town of Montepulciano, surrounded by vineyards and known for its "Vino Nobile".

After a grueling climb to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and a visit to it, everyone was looking forward to a relaxing lunch break before continuing on to Pienza.

This enchanting place in the Val d'Orca is now a Unesco World Heritage Site and was named after Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who was crowned Pope Pius II in 1485.

Through narrow, beautifully decorated streets and tempting shops and the smell of Pecorino di Pienza, Porcini and pasta, we arrived in Siena in the evening with delicacies in our pockets.

On Tuesday we visited the city of Siena, which is already known to many but is always worth seeing, with the medieval brick buildings and the shell-shaped main square, the "Piazza del Campo", the Gothic town hall "Palazzo Pubblico" and the "Torre del Mangia".

The "Piazza del Campo" is also particularly famous for the annual horse race "Palio di Siena".

On the way to Cecina we visited the chapel in San Galgano, where the origin of the legend of King Arthur and his magic sword Excalibur is believed to have originated. Because he renounced the material world, he rammed his sword into the rock, where it has remained to this day .

In the late afternoon we reached our sister city Cecina.

After the rooms were allocated at the Hotel Tornese, some rushed to their favorite spots on the beach and enjoyed the murmuring and sparkling sea.

After dinner we strolled along the beach promenade and celebrated Gerhard's birthday in a bar with a hearty "tanti auguri a te" into the night.

Wednesday morning was free.

Then we went to wine tasting near Montecatini in the Val di Cecina.

In the Fattoria Antica Sorbaione we visited the wine cellar with huge wine barrels.

We were attentively informed about the complex production of the different wines.

The highlight was of course the tasting of each type of wine, which was offered to us with tasty olive oil, pane and prosciutto e salame.

Exhilarated and with a few wine boxes on the bus, we drove back to Cecina.

In the evening we went to an osteria in Guardistallo.

Various Tuscan specialties were served at a long, beautifully set table.

We were able to experience the panoramic view of the sea and Cecina and a wonderful sunset.

On Thursday a new tour guide was waiting for us for an interesting city tour in Pistoia.

Among other things, we marveled at the cathedral Di San Zeno e Jacobus with its dome, which is also the episcopal church of the Diocese of Pistoia.

The silver altar of the saint in the crucifix chapel is of inestimable value and made a great impression on us all.

Our journey was then abruptly stopped.

A small car was parked so awkwardly that our bus driver Jeri couldn't get past with his bus even after repeated maneuvering.

After some back and forth, the Polizia was called and shortly thereafter the towing service.

About ¾ hour later we were able to continue our journey after this spectacle.

Because of the delay, we decided against the planned stop in Montecatine and the funicular ride to Montecatine Alto.

Instead, after arriving in Cecina, Jakob donated an ice cream for all bus passengers.

A trip to Piombino with a very well-speaking tour guide was on the program on Friday.

The port city is very picturesque on the Gulf of the Tyrrhenian Sea and we had a magnificent view of the nearby island of Elba.

After extensive photography, we visited some historically well-preserved buildings and the city gate "Torre e Revellione" before we drove back to Cecina in the late afternoon.

At the last dinner in the hotel, we looked back on the beautiful days we had together and stayed together until late at night.

During our stay in Cecina we also met friends from Cecina to discuss further partnership activities like the upcoming trip of the Geisenbrunn youth fire brigade to Cecina, the participation of members of the Comitato Cecina and the Targa-Cecina at the Festa Italiana in Gilching and the Participation of "Guichinger Customs" at the Targa celebrations in September.

On Saturday morning at 8 a.m. we drove back to Gilching, but not without saying goodbye to our Maria in the Ospedale Cecina, who had broken her thigh in a fall.

We then shortened the long drive to Chiusa by singing Italian and German songs.

The snacks in the Martscholer Weinhof, which is already an integral part of our Tuscany trips, formed the crowning glory of our trip.

Luise then thanked the 1st chairman Jakob Promoli on behalf of all participants with a gift for the once again excellent organization and management of this unforgettable trip, but especially for his tireless and ongoing commitment to our association.
