Bad Tölz – The anticipation of the 21st Tölz Rose and Garden Days, which attracted thousands of visitors from near and far to the district town on the Pentecost weekend, lasted two years.

Organizer Michaela Dorfmeister was able to win around 150 exhibitors after the forced break caused by Corona to give a foretaste of the new garden season in the three historic gardens at the former Franciscan monastery.

Guest of honor was the Bavarian actress Michaela May, who had just turned 70. On Pentecost Sunday, she christened a new breed of roses in her name, introduced the mucoviscidosis patient organization and read from her recently published autobiography.

One of the most important things: the weather showed itself from its best side on the four days from Friday to Whit Monday, the announced rain front on Sunday only came shortly before the end of the event.

The highlight of the major event was the christening of the roses on Sunday afternoon, when Michaela May christened a new breed from Rosenhof Schultheis in Bad Nauheim with the name "Glückskind Michaela May" with Tölzer rose blossom water.

The actress, who will be seen again in a "crime scene" on June 26 together with Heike Makatsch, has been committed to patients suffering from cystic fibrosis for over 30 years.

Their airways are clogged with mucus, and the life expectancy of those affected was extremely low decades ago.

"Thanks to research and medical progress, it is now 55 years old," said the actress, who received a significant donation from Dorfmeister for her attendance for the mucoviscidosis patient organization as a thank you.

Rosentage more than a market

The “mini chefs”, who are always present at the Rose Days, also gave support – after all, they mixed non-alcoholic drinks, which were offered to the numerous visitors to the enthusiastically applauded baptism ceremony in return for a donation to the association.

Michaela May then read from her biography "Behind the Smile", previously she had entered the city's Golden Book.

She praised the major event in Tölz and assured her colleague Ottfried Fischer, who now lives in Passau but will not be forgotten in the Isar town as the “bull from Tölz”, for the next edition of the Rose Days.

Donations go to local and national organizations

For Michaela Dorfmeister, who has organized the Rose Days from the start, it is a matter close to her heart to always be able to make donations to local and national organizations from the proceeds.

So the rose and garden days are not just a sales event.

Although the focus is on blooming roses, perennials and herbs, as well as craft production and creative cabaret, the program is also supplemented by informational events on nature and life-related topics.

There were musical performances and culinary delights from the region for everyone, and it wasn't boring for the children either.

The Fischbach women's group, among others, catered for the catering for the numerous visitors and once again offered delicious cakes and tarts.

After the official opening by District Administrator Josef Niedermaier, Mayor Ingo Mehner, Catholic and Protestant pastors and representatives of the Tourist Information Bad Tölz, visitors thronged the exhibition grounds in droves on the first day.

By Pentecost Sunday, 9,000 people came from near and far, many of whom apparently used the 9-euro ticket, because the surrounding streets were less crowded than in previous years.

A bus service from the train station was also offered again this time.

Booth operator robbed

The only downside: a 62-year-old stall operator was robbed on Saturday.

She was involved in a conversation with an approximately 30-year-old man who took advantage of the situation to steal the shoulder bag with 550 euros left at the stand.

All in all, Dorfmeister drew a positive balance despite the shortened preparation phase this year.

She now wants to plan the "Autumn Magic" that she is also organizing, which takes place around the Kurhaus.
