The city of Bad Tölz undergoes a certification process.

It wants to be considered a bicycle-friendly municipality in Bavaria.

This also enables financial support.

Bad Tölz –

The town of Bad Tölz wants to position itself much more as a town for cyclists.

At the most recent meeting of the city council, a fundamental decision was taken unanimously, according to which the aim is to increase the proportion of bicycle traffic in the city to 20 percent by 2027.

The aim is also to be recognized as a "bicycle-friendly municipality in Bavaria", which not least opens up access to state funding.

The city's measures are to be accompanied by the creation of an additional position for sustainability and mobility (bicycle traffic officer).

Rating enables access to funding

The city has already done a lot, as Managing Director Falko Wiesenhütter explained.

The signs in the city have been improved not only for cycling tourists, but also for everyday use.

Markings on the road made orientation easier.

Curbs were lowered and the passage at Moraltpark was structurally fixed.

The city is already a member of the "Working Group for Cycle-Friendly Municipalities" (AGFK).

However, the requirements have been tightened significantly in recent times.

In order to continue to be an AGFK member or even to receive the coveted “bicycle-friendly municipality” award from the Bavarian Ministry of Transport, Bad Tölz has to undergo a certification process.

A delegation of cycling experts has already cycled through Tölz and given them "homework".

According to Wiesenhütter, these can already be found in the 2015 traffic development plan, but due to capacity reasons in the administration, not all of them could have been processed.

It is about more bicycle parking spaces, charging stations for e-bikes and bicycle protection lanes.

Solution for the Nockhergasse bottleneck?

Johanna Pfund (Greens) commented directly on this.

She noticed that the bike racks are even removed at markets.

She spoke out in favor of improved cycle traffic routing on Gaißacher Straße/Osterleite, more safety for small cyclists around the schools and an increase in the proportion of cycle traffic in the city, which was specified at 15 percent in the resolution proposal.

"Whatever you want," replied Mayor Ingo Mehner, to whom the number itself did not mean much.

"That doesn't change anything about the measures we're going to take." They finally agreed on the target of 20 percent.

Pfund also raised the issue of Nockhergasse, where the city has been negotiating with the owner of the Irlbeck building for a long time about a possible passage for cyclists and pedestrians.

"What's the status there?", Pfund wanted to know.

Mehner replied that it was about property rights and the costs of possible construction work.

"As soon as we're done there, we will present the topic to the city council."

Christof Botzenhart (CSU) pointed out the state government's cycling offensive.

Because 27 municipal projects were included in the funding.

"Have you thought about that for Tölz?" Wiesenhütter replied that they were still in the certification process, i.e. "in the compulsory part" on the way to becoming a bicycle-friendly municipality.

For the time after that, however, one can still imagine many projects worthy of funding.

The experts will come to Tölz again in autumn to see whether the criteria for the certification process have been met, the manager replied to a question from Willi Streicher (SPD).
