The digital vaccination certificate has a technical expiry date.

As a traveller, you should make sure to renew it before it expires.

Munich – The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising and Corona is giving us a kind of “breather” in the summer.

That's why many people are finally looking forward to a carefree vacation after two years of the pandemic.

As a traveler, there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing.

For example, proof of a corona vaccination is still required for entry into some countries.

However, the digital vaccination certificate has an expiry date.

If it has been more than a year since your last vaccination, you must act now.

Anyone who has stored the corona vaccination on their smartphone as a digital vaccination certificate can easily prove their vaccination status.

This is particularly useful when travelling, because then you don't have to have the yellow vaccination booklet with you.

However, the digital vaccination certificate has an expiry date.

If it has been a year since your last vaccination, you should definitely renew the vaccination certificate on your smartphone.

You may have therefore already received a warning from the Corona Warning or CovPass app that your vaccination certificate will soon no longer be valid.

How to extend your vaccination certificate with the Corona-Warn-App

In the new version 2.23, the Corona-Warn-App automatically informs its users before the proof of recovery or vaccination expires.

You then have up to 90 days after the expiration of the technical validity to renew the certificate.

It's very simple: To renew, click on the "Renew certificate" button in the certificate area of the app.

Then all you have to do is give your consent and the certificate will be automatically replaced.

Then nothing stands in the way of your holiday.

Extend vaccination certificate expiry date in the CovPass app

The extension also works for CovPass app users with just a few clicks: In the new version 1.26 there is an update function for certificates that are about to expire and certificates that have already expired.

You will also be notified by this app and can then act.

To do this, you simply have to renew the certificate in the detail view.

Digital vaccination certificate on vacation: What you need to consider when traveling abroad

Even if the digital vaccination certificate expires after a while, your vaccination is still valid.

However, your vaccination status could change from October 2022.

Until then, however, all you have to do is renew your digital vaccination certificates.

In countries like France or Portugal you still need the vaccination certificate.

But here, too, the entry conditions can change again and again.

For cross-border travel, EU vaccination certificates are generally valid for 270 days.

If you are not traveling, you will currently need the vaccination certificate in medical facilities such as nursing homes and hospitals, as most corona restrictions have been lifted.
