Around 300 traditional costumers from the Upper Lechgau Association took part in the traditional pilgrimage to the Wies.

It was like a rebirth: After the Corona-related cancellations in the last two years, the traditional Wies pilgrimage of the traditional costume clubs of the Upper Lechgau Association took place for the first time since 2019.

– Last Whit Monday, under the spiritual leadership of Wieskurat Florian Geis, the numerous members of the 23 associations affiliated to the association went with their flags and the Gaustandarte to the Wieskirche, where a mass was celebrated.

For the clergyman, who was taking part in the procession for the first time, it was a moving and happy event - especially since, as ordered, the sun was shining brightly again after a rainy day and the meadows were steaming in the morning freshness.

This time the catholic television station “Kepha TV” was also there, broadcasting the event live to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The ceremonially carried flags were accompanied by cameras and microphones, and the words spoken by the Wieskurat on the 35-minute walk through the forest and then up to the world-famous Rococo building could be heard from afar.

The pilgrimage was also magnificent in other respects: it was the 25th anniversary of the pilgrimage pole with the image of Jesus being scourged and Saint Magnus, the patron saint of people wearing traditional costumes in the Upper Lechgau, as well as the inscription “The traditional costume clubs of the Upper Lechgau Association”. celebrate, which Gerhard Pichler wore this year.

With lots of music

The celebratory mass was framed by musical performances, including the Hopferauer “Ziachmusik”, the “Monika Dreigesang” from Seeg and the singers from Bidingen.

A candle was also dedicated.

This was followed by a garden party, organized by the Wieser costumers.

One who also made the heart of the chairman of the Upper Lechgau Association, Sepp Wohlfahrt, beat faster: "The pilgrimage is always a highlight in club life," he said in an interview with the local newspaper.
