District – It is the mountain race par excellence in Austria and for this reason alone it magically attracts cyclists: the Glocknerkönig.

Josef Stegherr and his wife Andrea Schwarz-Stegherr from Kinsau feel the same way, and Dennis Biederer from Landsberg is also striving for the mountain.

Simply coping with the high alpine road on a racing bike would not be enough for them: they flirt with placings.

And there was.

In the colors of the Weilheim Impulse cycling team, the trio from the district of Landsberg recently stood at the starting line together with two other teammates on the village square in Bruck.

The men tackled the Glocknerkönig Classic, the women the light version for the first time.

Even what sounds like a rather relaxed tour is still a challenge: Andrea Schwarz-Stegherr and her competitors had to overcome a difference in altitude of 1,300 meters over a distance of 12.8 kilometers.

The 58-year-old from Kinsau did it in 1:24:10 hours and just barely missed the podium: 5th place overall and 4th place in her age group.

Husband Josef helped to relieve the frustration about missing the podium.

In the Classic variant, it rolled over the finish line over 27.3 kilometers and 1,694 meters in altitude with 15 bends and gradients of up to twelve percent after 1:36:28.2 hours.

This was the perfect victory for the 62-year-old in his age group.

The "Glocknerkönig vom Lech" was able to celebrate with his wife and teammates after a strong performance.

But that's not all.

The Impuls cycling team recorded further successes on the Großglockner.

Dennis Biederer (29) from Landsberg not only fought against the tough track, the competition and his inner weakness, but like everyone else against the strong wind in the final part of the race.

He fought his way through, and how: In the field of more than 2,000 participants, he finished sixth after 1:23:36 and won bronze in his age group.

The Glocknerkönigs success of the impulse quartet was completed with the 3rd place in the team ranking, which surprised everyone involved.

Florian Christ (10th/4th place) from Sindelsdorf and Tim Öttl (17th/7th place) from Weilheim contributed to this.

happy team

"This is what kings look like," said a team from the AS Cycling Team around Alexander Steffens from Dießen.

Katharina Schlegel and Thomas Tietz, Hans-Peter, Renate and Niklas Bailer, Martin Ecke and Erich Dörfler as well as Marcus Zinn crowned themselves on the Großglockner.

Tietz posted the best result: 1:28 hours meant he was 24th overall and tenth in the age group.
