Many Hong Kong people feel abdominal pain or diarrhea whenever they are stressed. A study by the University of Hong Kong today (10th) pointed out that it may be caused by "irritable bowel syndrome" caused by emotional distress and stress.

In addition to drugs, hypnotherapy can be used to relieve symptoms.

Mr. Li shared that he lacked self-confidence since he was a child, and he often felt abdominal discomfort on exam days. Even after graduating for many years, the problem of abdominal discomfort still exists. "I have tried to go to the toilet two or three times a day, Locate the bathroom." Since he participated in the fusion hypnotherapy six years ago to solve the root cause of the restlessness in his heart, his abdominal discomfort and diarrhea have changed since then.

About 7% of people suffer from irritable bowel syndrome

Wu Zhaowen, director of the Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Hong Kong, pointed out that the pathogenesis of "irritable bowel syndrome" is unknown, or it may be related to gastrointestinal diseases, congenital gastrointestinal sensitivity, long-term stress or mental stress.

Intestinal cramps, abdominal pain, bloating and other symptoms appear, and about 7% of Hong Kong people also suffer from this disease.

Dr. Yin Wanping from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong, who is in charge of the research project, said that since 2017, she has started a clinical research project for the treatment of irritable bowel patients by hypnosis.

Patients receiving fusional hypnosis showed greater improvement

All 144 participants diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome were previously treated with medication, but their condition did not improve.

Participants were then randomly assigned to 3 treatment groups: Integrative, traditional, and information-based.

Yin Wanping said that the results of the study showed that the participants in the three groups had immediate and significant improvement in symptoms; and after 3 months, the two groups of hypnotherapy groups also had sustained effects, and the fusion hypnosis group continued to improve compared with the traditional group. The magnitude was larger; however, the participants who received the information seminar showed a rebound, which was worse than before the experiment.

Deng Guoyong, visiting assistant professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong, added that many patients have received too much information about their condition, and they have become more nervous.

Some patients are very nervous when they are in high school when they are on exam days

Mr. Li, who is in his 50s this year, has developed symptoms of "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" since middle school. He is very nervous on exam days and defecates two to three times a day. When he goes out, the first thing to do is to go to the shopping mall to confirm the location of the toilet.

Mr. Li later discovered by chance that he had symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and took part in the study.

After going through Integrative Hypnotherapy, I discovered that I was not confident in myself because my academic performance was often compared in my childhood.

Self-proclaimed dislike of reading, he obtained three master's degrees as an adult.

"Subconsciously, I think that through continuous reading, I can overcome the psychological discomfort. After the treatment, I will learn to relax and do more things that I am interested in." He pointed out that he has not had a bowel movement for six years irritable symptoms.
