In total, relatives of Alexia claimed more than 800,000 euros. At the same time, the couple's house will return entirely to Alexia's family.

It is the epilogue of long months of a legal and financial battle.

The Besançon Court of Appeal confirmed on Friday June 10 the condemnation of Jonathann Daval to pay nearly 160,000 euros in damages to the relatives of Alexia Fouillot.

The court, on the other hand, deemed “

inadmissible

” the claims for inheritance costs made by the parents of the young woman.

The family had appealed the decision of first instance, considering the amount insufficient.

It is an anecdotal decision, insofar as the Fouillot family has already been compensated by the Commission for the compensation of victims of offenses

.

It is now necessary to definitively settle the succession of Alexia

Jonathann Daval will therefore have to pay 130,000 euros to Jean-Pierre and Isabelle Fouillot, Alexia's parents, far from the 350,000 euros they initially claimed.

The victim's sister, Stéphanie Gay, her husband and their son will be respectively compensated up to 18,000 euros, 8,000 euros and 3,000 euros.

Justice has also dismissed the ten uncles and aunts of the young woman who had not demonstrated a "

bond of affection

" with their niece.

The latter have since been compensated by the CIVI for an amount of around 5,000 euros, the lawyers said.

In total, the family claimed more than 800,000 euros.

A “damage of media coverage”

As in the first instance, the Court of Appeal did not take into account the existence of "

mediatization damage

", as Alexia's family had argued, considering that the mediatization had not been avoided. and that it responded to "

a need for information

", particularly on the subject of "

violence against women

".

The defense lawyers had judged at first instance this amount to be equal to the damage suffered.

"

It's a satisfying decision

," explained Me Spatafora.

We come within the norms of what is usually allocated to a parent who has lost a child.

Their suffering is similar to that of parents who lose their daughter under the same conditions.

"

The court was not lost, it did not compensate to compensate, in an epidermal way because of the lies of Jonathann

", had at the time added his colleague Me Schwerdorffer.

At the same time, the court in Besançon (Doubs) decided that the entire family house in Gray-la-ville (Haute-Saône) will be returned to the family.

It was in this house that Alexia Fouillot was killed by Jonathann Daval, on the night of October 27 to 28, 2017. The next day he transported her body to a wood before setting it on fire and giving the alert. , maintaining that his wife had not returned from her jogging.

Alexia's body was found two days later.

For three months, he had shown the face of a grieving widower in the media, before being confused by the evidence and confessing.
