The government also announced the monkeypox preparedness and contingency plan. When monkeypox occurs or even breaks out in Hong Kong, the contingency plan will be activated immediately.

Under the contingency plan, there will be three contingency levels of "Alert", "Severe" and "Emergency", and the authorities will activate it in response to risk assessment and the health impact of monkeypox on the local community.


The Government gazetted today to include monkeypox in Schedule 1 of the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance (Cap. 599) as a Scheduled Infectious Disease and make it into the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A) (the Regulation ) under Specified Diseases.

The Government stated that there has been no confirmed case of human infection with monkeypox virus in Hong Kong so far. However, recently, there have been confirmed cases of human monkeypox infection in some monkeypox endemic and non-endemic countries. The World Health Organization has also called on governments to be prepared.

The spokesman added that the government will continue to maintain close contact with the WHO, closely monitor monkeypox infection cases recorded in other places and the latest WHO advice, and appeal to the public if they have symptoms of monkeypox, including fever, severe headache, muscle pain, lymph nodes Swelling, mouth sores and rashes should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
