So that the city can also save electricity in times of constantly rising energy costs, ei should increasingly rely on smart light poles.

The demands of the CSU and refers to a pilot project in Freiham.

Munich - Energy costs are rising, and the city of Munich should take every opportunity to save electricity.

The city council faction made up of the CSU and Free Voters submitted proposals for this with an application package.

The focus is on public street and outdoor lighting.

Intelligent light poles: systems turn on automatically when pedestrians approach

The city councilors are calling for more intelligent street lamps to be used in Munich.

These can be switched on and off selectively.

A pilot test with so-called smart light poles is already underway on Ellis-Kaut-Strasse in Freiham.

These switch on with the help of infrared sensors when cyclists or pedestrians approach.

The lamps in a street are networked together so that the path is lit before anyone reaches the next lamppost.

So that no one feels unsafe in the dark, the first and last lamp in a section are lit continuously.

Compared to LED lighting without sensors, the intelligent lamps consume only half the electricity.

At the same time, maintenance costs and light pollution are reduced.

CSU boss Manuel Pretzl: "We see great savings potential in street lighting"

In addition, the parliamentary group wants to have it checked whether illuminated outdoor advertising can be switched off by the hour and whether the lighting on less-used paths can be reduced.

"We see great savings potential in street lighting," says parliamentary group leader Manuel Pretzl.

“Instead of outdated technology, the city should rely on modern solutions.

Intelligent street lamps react to movement as required.

They even recognize whether a person or an animal is walking by.

With a cat, the path remains dark.

The smart technology reduces light pollution and protects the environment.”
