New position at City Hall: Volunteer Coordinator

A coordinator for community work is to support the work of the honorary officers in Holzkirchner town hall.

Holzkirchen will hire a community outreach coordinator to network and support the community's volunteer leaders.

In this way, the market councils want to strengthen and facilitate voluntary work.

– Several honorary officers take care of the needs of special groups of citizens in Holzkirchen.

There are officers for seniors and cyclists, for migrants and young people.

Because, in the opinion of the SPD parliamentary group, there is sometimes a need for coordination, Elisabeth Dasch (SPD) has now suggested setting up a coordination office in the municipal administration.

This becomes clear from an application by Dasch, which the municipal council had to decide on at its most recent meeting.

When asked, the SPD politician emphasized that the community should appreciate volunteering, but not overstrain it.

This could be done by setting up a coordination office.

The tasks of the new position include networking among the volunteers and “supporting many actors in order to create a good working relationship”.

Another plus point for Dasch: The coordinator promotes "every citizen's identification with their home town and the feeling of togetherness".

In their application, the Social Democrats speak of a position for “community work”.

This is a concept from social work.

Community work is intended to provide "orientation for professional work in the community".

"Community workers support self-help and initiative, and do as little as possible without or for the people."

Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) also saw the need for such a position in the town hall.

As an example, he cited cross-departmental issues, such as when representatives for the disabled and seniors are interested in the adjustment of curbs.

Here, a position in the town hall could bring together the work of the commissioners.

At the moment, the care of the honorary officers in the town hall is based in the two staff departments of public relations and location promotion.

A separate coordination office could therefore consolidate the previous work in the town hall.

During the municipal council debate, it became clear that it would still be some time before a future commissioner began his work.

In principle, however, the committee signaled its approval of the SPD parliamentary group's motion and accepted it unanimously.

Moritz Remuta (Greens) suggested talking to all officers about a coordination office in advance.

Applicant Dasch already has requirements for potential job holders.

"The person has to be open and able to approach people," she stated in the municipal council.

And Mayor Schmid added: "We need expertise".
