Shots again in the USA: man kills three work colleagues

In Maryland, his 23-year-old is said to have shot three people and critically injured another.
The alleged perpetrator then fled - and exchanged gunfire with the police.
Washington - In the US state of Maryland, a gunman opened fire on Thursday (June 9).
He killed at least three people.
Another person is said to have been critically injured in the incident on the premises of a machine shop in Smithsburg.
Then there was an exchange of fire with the police.
Maryland: Machine factory shooting - three dead and one injured
At 2:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. CEST), the police were called to the scene, the local sheriff's office said on Facebook on Thursday.
The alleged perpetrator fled after the shots were fired in the machine factory.
According to the police, all those involved, including the 23-year-old suspect, were employees of the machine factory.
The employees killed in the incident are three men aged between 30 and 50.
A police spokesman described the incident as "tragic" and expressed his condolences to all relatives.

When the 23-year-old was caught by the police shortly after the crime, there was an exchange of gunfire, in which the suspect and a police officer were injured.
Both are under medical treatment, it said.
The background to the crime initially remained unclear.
The injured police officer suffered no life-threatening injuries and was released after being treated in hospital.
Smithsburg has about 3000 inhabitants and is located in the western part of the state.
At the end of May, the USA was shaken by a shooting spree in an elementary school.
About a week later, a shooting broke out in Tennessee, killing three and injuring 14.
