The consulting firm QS has already published its ranking of the best universities in the world for 2023. The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) is the only Latin American in the global top 100, in 67th place.
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which in the ranking for 2021 had entered the world top 100, this time was left out, but it is still the second best in Latin America.
According to QS World University Rankings, among the best in the region there are two Argentine, two Mexican, two Brazilian, two Chilean and two Colombian universities.

QS highlights that the UBA, founded in 1821, has been home to four Nobel Prize winners and several presidents.
From 2012 to the projection for 2023, the Argentine university has advanced considerably in the ranking: it went from position 230 to the current position 67. Only two of those years registered falls.

The challenges of the UBA, the best university in Ibero-America
The evaluation categories in which it obtained the best results, close to 100 points, are the reputation of employers and academic reputation.
UNAM, which fell below number 100 in the ranking for 2022, improved one position but failed to return to being among the top hundred.
Its two strongest areas coincide with those of the UBA: academic and employer reputation.

The QS ranking for 2023 evaluated more than 1,400 universities from around the world, the largest number so far in its studies according to the consultancy.
To prepare the ranking, the consultant takes into account six indicators.
40% of the score is given by the "academic reputation", which evaluates the quality of teaching and research based on more than 13,000 expert opinions.
It also takes into account the reputation of employers, a criterion focused on entering the labor market after passing through university.
The ratio between professors and students is also evaluated, since for QS a high number of professors per student makes the experience superior, as well as the academic citations of studies.
And among the criteria, the number of international students and professors is also computed, since the existence of a global integration and perspective is evaluated as positive.
