The rescue story of the young Burgl cattle, which fell into a manure pit in Tiefenlachen, has been told over and over again for 13 years by the members of the Indersdorf fire brigade.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Indersdorf fire brigade, two long-standing members remembered funny moments from the life of the fire brigade.

Indersdorf - There are stories of breakdowns, curious rescue operations and strange coincidences.

When Georg Mair, 67, and Jim Moser, 65, talk about the past, it's as if you were there yourself.

For the 150th anniversary of the Indersdorfer Wehr, the long-serving Indersdorf firefighters have collected the funniest anecdotes from the life of the Indersdorfer Wehr.

As they talk about it, the two can hardly help but laugh.

Funny stories from the Indersdorf fire brigade: A special blessing

Have experienced a lot: the long-serving firefighters Jim Moser (left) and Georg Mair.

They are just remembering the blessing of a tank fire engine in 1989. "That was a funny thing," says Moser.

At the end of the ceremony, the pastor at the time, Gerhard Kauf, announced that he would give a special blessing to all those whom he did not often see in church.

He stopped in front of the then chairman and innkeeper Hubert Steidle, dipped his brush vigorously into the holy water cauldron and swung it so that it splashed and dripped.

"The pastor really got the Steidle wet," says Mair and grins.

Bizarre experiences at the Indersdorfer fire brigade: locked in the outhouse

Mair has been with the Indersdorf fire department for over 50 years, Moser for over 40 years.

Both of them know funny stories like this one.

Moser and Mair were present at many of them themselves, some only know them from stories.

For example, when the former equipment manager Reinhardt Schneider was stuck in the toilet because the handle had broken off.

For a whole three hours.

"That was really stupid," Moser comments and giggles.

If a fireman hadn't happened to drop by, the poor equipment manager would have had to wait longer in the toilet.

"A strange coincidence": Burgl frees Burgl

But that was not the only toilet rescue operation at the Indersdorf fire brigade.

Moser's and Mair's colleagues also once rescued a cow from an awkward situation.

The young cattle named Burgl fell into a liquid manure pit in Tiefenlachen on July 31, 2009 and was stuck up to its neck in manure.

But rescue was at hand.

The Indersdorf fire brigade came and pulled the frightened Burgl out of the dirt with a turntable ladder.

At that time Thomas Burgmair, who was called Burgl by everyone, was in command.

"The Burgl saved its namesake," says Moser and laughs.

"It's a strange coincidence," says Mair.

For both Burgls there was at least a thorough shower after the mission.

"I blubbered like a yoke vulture": rescue at the last second

Mair and Moser also experienced something with a cow that they will probably never forget.

A rescue at the last second you could say.

But the firefighters didn't have to save a cow in this case, they had to be saved from a cow.

The young Burgl cattle were up to their necks in the dirt.

The Indersdorf fire brigade moved out for an operation.

There was a fire on a farm in Thalmannsdorf.

While Mair was busy putting out the fire, Moser spotted a frightened cow.

"That was a bloody beast," Moser recalls.

And this "murder beast" came racing straight at the unsuspecting Mair.

Moser tried with all his might to warn his friend.

"I blared like a yoke vulture," he says.

With success.

Mair turned around, startled.

Still holding the nozzle.

Now the panicking cow was frightened too.

"When I heard the yelling, I turned around with the jet and hit Jim Moser with the jet of water and then the cattle," says Mair.

The cow slammed on the brakes and then quickly turned around.

Things went well once again – albeit very close.

Imaginary telephones at the Indersdorf fire brigade: an amusing disaster exercise

Another story that the two of them fondly recall has nothing to do with animals, but with a telephone.

Mair and firefighter Reinhard Schneider took part in a disaster drill in the Dachau district office in the 1980s.

“That was a very relaxed first round of business games for us,” says Mair.

The game management informed the fire brigades of their tasks by telephone.

In contrast to other fire departments from the district, Mair and Schneider made no move to pick up the fictitious listener.

"The game management was totally irritated," said Mair.

"The representatives of the other fire brigades did not understand our behavior either.

But we knew exactly why we weren't doing anything," says Mair with a grin.

"At the time, there was no telephone connection in the Indersdorf fire station."

In the meantime, the Indersdorfer Wehr can of course be reached by telephone.

In 1989 she got her first telephone.

vulnerability eliminated.

So she would have to be well prepared for simulation games of this kind.

Except for cell phones.

Cell phone reception is bad at the fire station in Indersdorf.
