A Syrian team won first place in the International Olympiad for Mental Arithmetic “Alberto Cotto” in Spain, by participating through the global mental arithmetic platform with participants from more than 200 countries.
The Syrian team's coach, Rawda Al-Muktaf, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the team won two golds through the participants Jad Al-Bayoush and Arin Sakir, while the two participants, Azad Khalaf and Dara Jamal, ranked second in the world.
Al-Mukataf pointed out that this time the competition took place by default via a computer and not paper as it was in the past, in order to ensure the integrity of the competition, which was supervised by the world champion in mental arithmetic, Alberto Cotto, who broke records in this field.
The 7-year-old Jad Al-Bayoush won first place in the multiplication process, while the child Arin Sakir won the first level in addition and subtraction for young ages. Azad Khalaf and Dara Jamal won second place in division, while the participants Basima Tamer, Aisha Al-Mamo and Jalal Muhammad Abbas Bronze medals.
Prizes were presented to the contestants, including scholarships for a diploma in mental arithmetic in Sweden and a free lifetime subscription to the platform.
