After a two-year forced break due to Corona, the Catholic city church can celebrate the Corpus Christi festival as we know it this year.

On Thursday, June 16th, there will be one procession each in Germering and Unterpfaffenhofen.

St. Cecilia celebrates on Sunday.

Germering – In the first Corona year 2020, the town church celebrated Corpus Christi for the last time.

However, at that time there was no longer any usual procession.

City pastor Andreas Christian Jaster only went through the streets with the sacristan Joseph Schneider and the church musician Sul Bi Yi for the blessing.

Last year there was no procession at all.

Now the city church is reporting a return to normality.

"Thank God we will be able to celebrate the Corpus Christi festival as usual this year - after two years of special mode due to Corona," explains Pastor Jaster.

From the point of view of the church, this is also important because flag delegations from the local clubs and fellow celebrationrs in traditional costumes underlined the popular piety and celebration associated with Corpus Christi.

The town church celebrates the feast of Corpus Christi as before the Corona with three processions.

The parishes of St. Johannes Bosco (Unterpfaffenhofen) and St. Martin (Germering) traditionally celebrate the festival on the holiday itself. The parish of St. Cäcilia (Harthaus) celebrates on Sunday, June 19th.

That was also the case in the years before Corona.

schedule and routes

In St. Johannes Bosco, the celebrations begin on Thursday, June 16, with a festive service at 8:15 a.m. in front of the village church of St. Jakob, Alte Kirchstraße.

The procession takes place after the solemn mass.

It leads from the Jakobskirche via Salzstraße, turning right into Brückenstraße, further along Salzstraße, Allinger Straße, Nebeler Straße and Alte Kirchstraße back to the square in front of St. Jakob.

Afterwards there will be a cozy get-together in the fire station on Starnberger Weg.

The brass band of the Unterpfaffenhofen volunteer fire brigade provides the appropriate music.

If the weather is bad, only the festival service will take place in the Church of St. James.

St. Martin

In St. Martin the festive mass begins at 9.30 a.m. in the parish church.

The shortened procession route, which is intended to enable those taking part in the celebrations to go in as large a number as possible, leads from the church via Marquartweg to Kirchenstraße.

From there, turn right in an easterly direction to Untere Bahnhofstrasse, then turn left in a northerly direction along Untere Bahnhofstrasse to Augsburger Strasse.

At the crossroads, the procession turns right across Augsburger Strasse to the Mariensäule.

There is an altar there.

From the Marian column, the way back to the church leads via the Schulweg, Kirchenstraße and Marquartweg back to the parish church.

From the point of view of the town church, it is important that the processional route includes the parish church,

the Marian column as one of the landmarks of the old village center of Germering and the old village church of St. Martin.

After the procession, there will be a morning pint in the parish center.

The parish of St. Cecilia begins its celebration on Sunday, June 19, at 9.30 a.m. with a festive mass in the parish church at Harthaus train station.

The procession that follows leads from the church in the direction of the train station and on to the end of Hubertusstraße.

There the train turns right into Hartstraße and stops at an altar that has been set up at house number 116.

From here, continue along Defreggerstrasse and Eisenbahnstrasse to the railway underpass and back to the church.

The parish festival that follows is celebrated in the garden when the weather is nice.

There is food and drinks.
