If Jean-Luc Mélenchon already sees himself as Prime Minister, the big winner of these legislative elections could well be abstention.

After historically low levels of participation recorded during the municipal elections of 2020, the regional and departmental elections of 2021, and to a lesser extent during the presidential elections, the ballot box strike once again promises to be massive, in particular in the popular and for young people.

In the major Ipsos survey carried out at the end of May among nearly 12,000 people, we measured a potential participation of 66% among those aged 70 and over (i.e. 11 points less than during the presidential election), and 32% among those under 25 (26 points less than in the presidential election), recalls the pollster Mathieu Gallard in our columns.

In the same way, the popular categories systematically vote less than the seniors and the middle/upper categories.

A trend which, according to Gallard, benefits the presidential majority…
