Last weekend, an operation was carried out to enforce the ban on fishing and the ban on traveling on the beaches due to the fish breeding season.

During the operation, more than 30 vessels were inspected, 11 suspects were investigated for various fishing offenses, about 20 vehicles traveling on the beach were documented in violation of the law and a large standing net placed in violation of the law was taken out of the sea.

The operation is held every year between May and June, from the beaches of Achziv in the north to the beaches of Ashkelon in the south.

During this period, every year, there are significant restrictions on fishing on the shores of the Mediterranean, in order to ensure a proper and regular breeding process of the fish in the sea and the conservation of the fishery resource.

Meanwhile, the sea turtle spawning season is currently opening on the shores of Israel and it is even more important to enforce the ban on driving on the beaches in order to preserve the coastal environment and prevent damage to the eggs laid.

This is in addition to maintaining the safety of bathers and those staying at the beaches.

"The breeding season is a key tool in managing the fishing interface in Israel and directly affects the health and prosperity of the marine habitat and the abundance of fishing in the coming years," said Yigal Ben-Ari, director of the Marine and Nature Parks Marine Unit. In the breeding season until the end of June.

We are happy to see that the majority of the fishing community shows understanding and upholds the law out of an understanding of the importance of maintaining the breeding season without fishing. "
