Power test: A close struggle between the president and Melenchon in the polls for the National Assembly • If the head of the Union of Left Parties wins - the opposition will be able to sandal the government

A month and a half after the victory in the French presidential election, Emanuel Macron and his party face a significant test of political power: the number of deputies in parliament and its impact on the functioning of the French government.

Tomorrow (Sunday) and next Sunday will be the two rounds of elections for the National Assembly, the French parliament, and polls conducted in recent days predict that the coalition of parties supporting Macron, "Together", will not achieve an absolute majority of deputies in parliament.

In this way, the opposition on the left and right will be able to "sandal" and neutralize the government work that Macron recently appointed.

According to the polls, Yahad is expected to achieve only 265 deputies, while it needs 289 deputies or more in the National Assembly to control parliament and allow the government to work smoothly.

On the other hand, the unification of the left-wing parties, led by the far-left leader, Jean-Luc Melenchon, strengthens his power in the polls and is expected to gain between 145 and 203 seats.

Voting participation test

According to the French electoral system, if one of the candidates for a seat in parliament in the various constituencies does not get more than 50% of the vote, the two leading candidates will run in a second round of voting, which will take place this coming Sunday.

In this round, each majority is enough for victory.

Turnout will play a crucial role in the election results, as the abstention rate is expected to break a record this year.

The Melenchon coalition very much hopes to succeed in recruiting many young voters, in order to strengthen and make it a decisive force in the next parliament.

Melanchthon, who has extreme socialist views, is very popular among the young French and among the inhabitants of the big cities.

A nationwide poll that does not reflect the results of the parliamentary elections, published this weekend in the daily Le Monde, found that 28% of French people would vote for the Macron coalition compared to 27% who would vote for the Melanchone coalition.

According to a nationwide poll published over the weekend by the esteemed Ifop polling institute, the Melanchone coalition leads by half a percent over the Macron coalition (26.5% vs. 26%).
