The Ukraine war claims many victims.

People die, others are wounded and need treatment.

Prostheses, splints, wheelchairs and more are needed.

Emmering - This is the specialty of the Emmering company Streifeneder.

It produces all these aids - and has helped many injured people.

Shortly after the start of the war, the traditional company for orthopedic and rehabilitation technology was overrun with inquiries.

"Everyone wanted to organize and do something," reports Sabine Knobloch.

She heads the legal department in the company and takes care of special orders - and the Ukraine campaign.

The Emmeringer company donated a large part of the orthopedic aids.

Management and employees immediately agreed that they wanted to help.

But it is not that easy.

It's not about clothes, cat food or soap.

It's about crutches, wheelchairs and other quite bulky and sensitive equipment.

That was clear after a conversation with the district manager of the Red Cross, Rainer Bertram.

"That's why we deliberately chose partners who can ensure that our help gets to where it is needed most."

In the beginning, drugs and bandages were more in demand, says Sabine Knobloch.

But soon more was needed.

At the beginning of March, the Baywa Foundation approached the Streifeneder company.

"They had secured transport routes." Time and again, goods transports bring everything that is needed to the Eastern European borders.

The foundation also helps refugees.

Wheelchair for refugee girl

The Emmeringer orthopedic specialists also teamed up with the Munich association “Heimatstern”.

This organization also brings relief supplies to Ukraine.

"Some of our employees were already involved in the organization," reports Knobloch.

In this way, it was possible to coordinate exactly what was needed.

Prosthetic feet, compression stockings, wheelchairs and various orthoses (orthopaedic aids attached to the body, such as splints, bandages and braces) were delivered directly to the war zone.

"We were able to take care of around 300 people in Ukraine," says Sabine Knobloch.

Inquiries from clinics

Employees helped pack prostheses, splints, compression stockings and more into boxes.

The employee reports that a wheelchair is currently being prepared for a refugee girl in Romania.

In addition, there are always inquiries from surrounding clinics when prostheses, splints, crutches and the like are needed.

"Unfortunately, this will continue to be needed," fears Sabine Knobloch.

Only these aids for war wounded in Germany are regularly billed via social benefits.

The company does not have to expand production at the moment.

The inquiries came in droplets – there were still enough supplies to cover them.

The future will show whether this will remain the case.
