The first measures from the 2022 relief package are already taking effect.

But many Germans are dissatisfied with the government's help - they are demanding more relief.

Berlin – The 2022 relief package was finally decided in May of this year – the tank discount has been in effect since June, as has the long-awaited 9-euro ticket nationwide.

However, a representative survey has now shown that around three quarters of Germans are dissatisfied with the measures taken by the federal government in the fight against rising prices in everyday life and inflation.

Many are asking for additional relief.

Relief package 2022 is not enough: three quarters of Germans are dissatisfied with the measures

The cost of living in Germany has shot up to unimagined heights in many areas as a result of the Ukraine war.

Consumers notice this when shopping, at the gas station and when looking at heating costs.

Because of the ongoing price shocks in the supermarket, poorer Germans are already holding back meals.

In order to help citizens financially, the federal government decided on a relief package this spring.

Part of this is the energy flat rate of 300 euros, the fuel discount, the popular 9-euro ticket as well as the children's bonus and the Hartz IV subsidy.

But a survey conducted for

Business Insider

by the opinion research institute Civey has now shown that this is not enough for many Germans.

Accordingly, three quarters of those surveyed are of the opinion that the federal government is doing too little to relieve citizens of the rising prices.

More than half even think that politicians are doing "clearly too little".

Just under nine percent are of the opinion that the state is doing too much.

Germans are demanding more relief and help in everyday life - the 2022 relief package is not enough

Not a particularly good rate when it comes to German satisfaction.

The respondents also stated what they would like to see beyond the relief that has already been decided.

According to Business Insider

, although the demands differ,

two clear tendencies are emerging.

57 percent spoke out in favor of a reduction in consumer taxes - which they are not alone in.

Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) has already made the proposal to abolish VAT on fruit, vegetables and legumes: “The low-income households in particular would benefit from this.

We would also create an additional incentive for a healthier diet," he told

Welt am Sonntag

.

The Federal Environment Agency also suggested making meat more expensive and vegetables cheaper.

Half of Germans are in favor of excess profit tax - polarized in the government

About half of the Germans surveyed on behalf of

Business Insider

also spoke out in favor of the so-called excess profit tax.

This is currently triggering a lively debate in the federal government - according to Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, however, there are still many unanswered questions with regard to an excess profit tax.

So far it can be said that the Greens and SPD are openly opposed to such a special tax, which is intended to skim off additional corporate profits - but the FDP and the Union are consistently opposed.

More help after the 2022 relief package?

Heil is trying to use the climate money

Business Insider

reports that almost 40 percent of those surveyed would like the federal government to impose additional price caps to curb inflation

.

About a quarter are also in favor of higher social benefits and a fifth of a one-off payment for those on low incomes.

However, there has been movement in the area of social benefits for some time: Heil would like to make citizen income out of Hartz IV – and thus significantly increase the standard rate.

The Minister of Social Affairs is also trying to introduce a payment for low-income earners: as part of the social climate allowance, Heil wants to introduce further relief for low and middle earners and probably also pensioners.

After the relief package: When could new aid come?

government is already planning

According to

Business Insider

, only seven percent of those surveyed do not want any further measures from the federal government – but this wish could come true.

According to Federal Finance Minister Lindner, there is currently no scope for further relief, at least not before the summer break.

The federal government had reached its financial limit, he told

t-online.de

.

SPD faction leader Rolf Mützenich, on the other hand, is already talking about further relief after the 2022 relief package - but when could the new help come?

According to the parliamentary group leader, the federal government is already planning further support for the citizens.
