Director of the Third European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Oleg Tyapkin stressed that the Russian response to strengthening the NATO group in Poland would be appropriate and sufficient.

"Of course, we cannot and will not be indifferent about the strengthening of the NATO group in Poland," Tyapkin said in an interview with the Russian Interfax news agency today. "The response, as usual, will be appropriate and sufficient and aims to neutralize potential threats to the security of the Russian Federation."

"The level of tension between Russia and Poland has not reached in modern history the level it is now... and all of this happened without our fault," noting that it is not excluded that the level of diplomatic relations would be reduced or even completely cut off with Warsaw, but the Russian side will not be initiator of it.

Tyapkin pointed out that at present, Poland is one of the ardent initiators of imposing strict sanctions on Russia and cutting off not only political contacts, but also economic and even cultural relations with it, as it has recently taken a number of unfriendly steps such as the mass expulsion of Russian diplomats last March without any reason. At the same time, he stated that "there are no unsolvable problems in our bilateral relations with Poland... We have communicated this simple idea regularly to the partners in Warsaw."

Tyapkin felt that a little common sense and an avoidance of ideological bias on the part of the authorities in Warsaw would gradually make things better in relations between the two countries.

As for the Russian-German relations, Tyapkin made it clear that Russia will not take the initiative to sever its relations with Berlin, as it is open to constructive contacts with all German partners who take a cautious attitude towards Russia.

“Moscow has always emphasized that Russia is interested in developing good-neighborly and multi-pronged relations with Germany based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests ... We are, as in the past, convinced that only on such a basis can relations be built ... It is a pity that the political elite Today the German has a different opinion.”
