The tank discount has been in effect in Germany since June 1st.

But will the reduced energy tax fizzle out?

The ADAC criticized - because the fuel prices are picking up again.

Bamberg – Great hopes were placed in the tank discount.

Motorists throughout Germany should benefit from the reduced energy tax that was introduced to counteract the rising fuel costs.

The tank discount has been in effect since June 1 – the principle sounds simple: the energy tax was reduced to the minimum applicable in the EU for a limited period of time.

Tank discount: ADAC criticism – does the energy tax not reach the consumer?

On June 1st, the prices for petrol and the like fell noticeably.

According to ADAC, the cost of the Super E10, for example, fell by 27.3 cents compared to the previous day without a fuel discount.

However, according to the ADAC report, this was not a complete transfer of the tax cut.

But that's not all: Since then, fuel prices have even been rising sharply again.

Compared to June 1, Super E10 cost 7.0 cents more on June 7, according to ADAC, diesel 6.4 cents more.

ADAC fuel price expert Christian Laberer comments on the situation in clear terms in the ADAC report:

The prices are still very high.

As a neutral body, the Cartel Office must determine that the discount is not being used, and politicians should act.

Because at the moment the taxpayer is promoting the profits of the mineral oil industry, which is apparently using the crisis situation to maximize profits at the expense of consumers.”

It is a long way from a pre-war level.

The current price developments are erratic, she can no longer recommend times when the price is cheapest.

"In my opinion, everything is on purpose," says the frustrated tenant.

After all: According to

spiegel.de

, the President of the Federal Cartel Office, Andreas Mundt, announced on June 2 that he would keep a very close eye on the oil companies.

So far, his conclusion is likely to be sobering.
