Camping is trendy.

That also has a lot to do with the pandemic.

The Murnau market now has to look for a new tenant for the space on the Burg peninsula.

Because the old one is retiring.

Murnau/Seehausen

– October 23rd, a Sunday, will be the last day.

Then Deborah and Markus Getzreiter clear the field at the campsite on the Burg peninsula.

"I'm retiring," says the tenant (63).

An era will then end.

Because the Getzreiters have been running the campsite since April 1991. At that time, the GDR had just joined the Federal Republic, so Germany was reunited.

A lot has happened in the past 30 years.

"We've seen many come and go," says Markus Getzreiter.

The currently oldest camper is 103 years old.

However, the lady no longer sleeps at her permanent place.

So the final season has begun for the Getzreiters.

This means that Markt Murnau, as the owner of the area on Seehauser Flur, has to look for a new operator.

"It is planned to start the new lease on April 1, 2023," said city hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger.

The campsite is currently being overhauled, as the necessary fire lanes are being installed and new electrical supply terminals are being set up.

The restaurant is also being renovated.

"Those interested should bring in demonstrable experience in managing a campsite and gastronomic experience in running a restaurant," says Roettinger.

98 pitches after rearrangement

A maximum of 20 percent of the pitches may be rented out as permanent campsites.

After the reorganization, there will probably be a total of 98 stands.

The area, including the car park and restaurant, covers almost 19,000 square meters.

The Main Management Committee has already dealt with the tender behind closed doors.

In 2021, the campsites in Germany counted almost 33 million overnight stays.

That is three percent less than in 2020 and eight percent less than in the pre-Corona year 2019. Bavaria recorded the most overnight stays.

Association: trend unchecked

Despite the renewed minus in the full-year result, Christian Günther, Managing Director of the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany (BVCD), is positive about 2022: "The camping trend remains unchecked.

The record number of overnight stays in August in connection with the high number of new registrations of leisure vehicles make it clear that camping as a natural and safe form of vacation is still attractive.”

Tourism consultant Wolfgang Küpper (ÖDP/Bürgerforum) also refers to the camping trend.

"Due to the corona pandemic, vacationing in the open air has increased in popularity again in the last two years." That's why the Murnau campsite is indispensable.

"In particular, the number of guests who come to the Blue Land with a mobile home has grown recently." According to Küpper, the trend should continue.

The fact that the Murnau campsite also offers mobile home pitches is an advantage for everyone - for holidaymakers and locals alike.
