250 km and 20,000 vertical meters around the Eiger-Aletsch massif and doing good with every step: Magdalena Kalus and Susann Lehmann want to give something back to the Alps, which give them peace and relaxation.

Walchensee/Kochel am See – 250 kilometers and 20,000 meters in altitude in 100 hours – this is the goal Magdalena Kalus (36) and Susann Lehmann (36) have set themselves.

But the two women from Walchensee and Kochel am See don't just have big plans in terms of sport.

With the run they want to collect donations of 25,000 euros for the Bund Naturschutz.

Her plan: to connect the run with a good cause

The two have chosen the Eiger-Aletsch ultra trail, which takes place from July 13th to 17th around the Eiger-Aletsch massif, for their fundraising campaign.

But how do you even come up with such an idea?

"We've both been running trails for a long time," says Magdalena Kalus.

"Because we've both been living in Tölzer Land for some time, we've trained together more often and decided we want to do something challenging." No sooner said than done.

When Magdalena and Susann heard about the Eiger Ultratrail, they knew: "That's our thing.

But we wanted to combine the run with a good cause,” explains Magdalena.

They want to give something back to the mountains

Because the mountains and nature give them so much, the two women now want to give something back: "Our goal is to donate 25,000 euros to the nature conservation association.

To preserve the diversity of species and biodiversity in our local mountains,” say the two women.

"The mountains are our hobby," says Magdalena Kalus.

“We spend all our free time there, recharge our batteries and find peace.

You also come up with lots of new ideas in nature.”

A major concern: treat nature well

The environment is very important to the veterinarian who currently works as an HR manager in Munich.

Her motivation for the charity run: "Environmental protection has always been important to me, but since I moved to Lake Walchensee a year and a half ago, it has been particularly important to me to treat and protect nature well."

As a nature conservation ambassador for the district ("Nature conservation begins with you"), she organizes garbage collection campaigns and Susann Lehmann, who works as a freelance social media manager and graphic designer, has already collected several thousand euros for non-profit associations and organizations in her own fundraising runs.

With this campaign, the runners are making a dream come true

Making the whole thing bigger has always been a dream of the two, who reach tens of thousands of people on their Instagram channels.

So they pooled their expertise and the Run for the alps project was born.

Not only do they want to run 250 kilometers together in 100 hours, they also want to climb 20,000 meters in altitude.

"We have a soft spot for long mountain tours," says Kalus.

It's her biggest running adventure to date

Nevertheless, it is the biggest running adventure for both of them.

"Of course, in preparation you have to spend many kilometers and meters of altitude on your legs so that your body gets used to it," says Kalus.

Their places of residence, at Walchensee and Kochelsee, offer both of them perfect training opportunities on their doorstep.

"My local mountain is the Herzogstand," she reveals, "and Susann's is the Sonnenspitz.

The only thing that separates us is the Kesselberg.” The two started training in the spring.

"We ran different trails and covered long distances," explains Magdalena Kalus.

Nevertheless, the two are clear: "It will be a blatant burden."

"Crazy action, crazy sum" - money is used for projects in the Alps

Nevertheless, the women have their goal clearly in mind: to do something good with every step.

"That's a crazy action - why not a crazy sum?" Kalus thinks.

The donations go directly to the Bund Naturschutz.

The money is to be used for projects in the Alps.

"For what exactly, we are currently still in the process of voting."
