A recent medical study, whose results were published in the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism, revealed that walking reduces knee pain caused by joint diseases and inflammation, and also protects against osteoporosis.
According to the American Fox News website, the results of a study in which more than 1,200 people suffering from arthritis and conducted by researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas showed that “those who practiced walking were 40 percent less likely to develop knee pain compared to those who did not exercise.” .
"These findings are particularly useful for people who have evidence of osteoporosis as walking can be of great help," said Grace Hsiao-Wei Lu, an expert in immunology, allergy and rheumatology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Wei Lu called on those who suffer from knee pain, arthritis or osteoporosis to think about walking, stressing that the most important idea is prevention through walking, which is a free sport and has few side effects compared to medicines that are often financially expensive and have side effects.
Walking also has other health benefits, including improving cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of obesity, diabetes and some types of cancer, said Wei Lu.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and leads to erosion of the joint surfaces in the knee, which leads to inflammation around the joint surfaces, and then cartilage erosion and pain.
