Biden on the possibility of visiting Saudi Arabia: "It has to do with Israel's national security" | Israel today

President Biden is apparently approving for the first time reports of the possibility that his possible visit to Saudi Arabia will focus on promoting contacts between Israel and the kingdom. "I have a plan that includes much more than the oil issue"

Although the US media has already leaked President Joe Biden's plans to travel to Saudi Arabia and meet with royal officials, including controversial regent Muhammad bin Salman, Biden on Sunday also confirmed that the purpose of such a visit is to promote contacts between Israel and Saudi Arabia and not just persuade Saudi Arabia to harness greater oil production.

Biden was asked by reporters whether he had decided to visit Saudi Arabia and replied "no not yet".

And when asked what is holding back the decision, and whether he is waiting for any commitments from the Saudis around the global energy crisis he replied:

"No, no. The commitments from the Saudis are not related to anything related to energy. It is related to a much broader meeting that will take place in Saudi Arabia [probably the GCC Forum of the Gulf States]. That is why I am coming. And it is related to their national security - to Israelis. I have a plan. And it has to do with issues that are much bigger than energy. "

Biden's apparently refers to the regional plan that was unofficially reported that Israel and Saudi Arabia would move toward normalization, including by transferring sovereignty in Tiran Egypt to Saudi Arabia by de facto changing peace agreements with Egypt and expanding flight rights over Saudi Arabia.
