Carl Paladino, a Republican running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in western New York County, praised Adolf Hitler last year in front of his supporters, saying the Nazi dictator is "the kind of leader we need today."

In a 2021 interview, Paladino said he was impressed by the way the German leader and the Nazi party "stirred the crowd" in his speeches and hinted that Republicans in New York and Washington should copy Hitler's approach.

"He would go on stage and shout nicknames and these people who were there - he hypnotized them," Paladino said in an interview with the nonprofit Media Matters.

"I guess that's the kind of leader we need today. We need someone who inspires. We need someone who does. Our Republicans are asleep."

Paladino has been a supporter of former President Donald Trump since 2013, when real estate tycoon Trump considered running in the race for New York state governor

. , Is still considered significant in many

Republican

circles, especially those around Paladino, who previously said it was forbidden to "brainwash" children so that they would think it was acceptable to be gay, and even proposed releasing former First Lady Michelle Obama "in Zimbabwe's school districts."

They will never be convinced of the allegations made against Trump by the House of Commons' special committee to attack Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021 - regardless of the shocking amount of evidence and staggering evidence this committee presented last night and will continue to present to the public this month.

These Republicans then believed and continue to believe today that President Joe Biden's victory in the November 2020 presidential election is a scam and in practice the election was stolen from Trump, the legal and worthy winner.

At least 21 lawmakers - all Republicans - participated to one degree or another in the Jan. 6 events, according to a study by the Democratic Party (DLCC).

More than a quarter of them are currently running for a seat in a House of Representatives or Senate, ahead of the midterm elections this coming November.

One of them, Sen. Mike Eisinger of West Virginia, said in a recent interview with the New York Times that he was glad he went to a Trump rally that later turned into an assault on Capitol Hill.

"I hope Trump calls on us again just to upset the left that is trying to destroy him, and in my opinion, the Republic."

Some of those lawmakers who were involved in the events are now facing the legal and professional consequences of their actions, but only one has publicly regretted his actions.

Derrick Evans who was just elected to the House of Representatives of West Virginia when he streamed his participation in the onslaught.

Evans was arrested two days later and charged with obstructing federal proceedings.

He immediately took responsibility for his actions and resigned from the House of Representatives.

He recently signed a guilty plea agreement, and is awaiting a sentence that could include a $ 250,000 fine in addition to five years in prison.

His sentencing hearing will be held on June 22.

Other Republican lawmakers have not expressed remorse and have not changed their position since.

They have thousands of ardent supporters, and their political careers continue unabated.

The Republican lack of remorse, both from the responsible legislators and from the stormy crowd, is constantly reinforced by the Fox News channel, which has become Trump's mouthpiece and lost all credibility and grip on reality.

Fox News, like those Republicans, operates in a world of alternative realities, a kind of "opposite world," where Trump is the only leader the United States can have.

On Thursday, when all of the country's news channels and networks aired the first public hearing of the Jan. 6 events commission, Fox News, led by broadcaster Tucker Carlson, ignored the significant moment in U.S. political history and went on to sell the "big lie" theory. Of Trump.

The assailants entered the building.

The deadly attack, in which about 150 policemen were injured and nine people killed, was, according to Carlson, a total "marginal and forgotten outbreak of violent violence, which happened more than half a year ago."

Carlson added that "the whole thing is insulting. The truth is it's crazy. And we will not cooperate with it. We will not broadcast this propaganda live. They are lying, and we will not help them. Journalism used to be a respectable profession. Today it is shameful."

This alternate reality, unfortunately, has not weakened since Biden's victory.

On the contrary.

Increase in support

The second impeachment trial, held for Trump a month after the attack on February 9, 2021, already revealed a great deal of information about what happened on Capitol Hill.

At the first hearing on July 27, 2021 held by the Capitol Events Committee, shocking testimony was heard from four policemen who were seriously injured that day.

But neither the trial nor the hearing at the time affected Trump's percentage of support, according to polls.

In practice, the only thing that affected his percentage of support were the events of January 6 themselves - two weeks after the attack, Trump left the White House with only 38% support - the lowest figure in his tenure.

Now, however, polls show that voter dissatisfaction has subsided - and many Americans have already forgotten why they were angry with Trump in the first place.

According to a June 538 site poll, 41.9 percent of those polled had a positive opinion of Trump.

He's not as popular as he used to be - but his support is enough to run in the 2024 election, and maybe even to win.

A NBC News poll, conducted two weeks after the attack, found that 47% of voters thought Trump was not at all guilty of the attack, or partially guilty.

A recent poll showed that now 55% of voters believe that Trump was not responsible at all for the events of January 6, or was only partially responsible - an 8% increase.

The additional public hearings to be held later this month are set to reveal more information about Trump's plot to turn the results of the 2020 presidential election, and American democracy.

But the question is whether this information will succeed in penetrating the minds and hearts of Republican voters and changing their minds when they go to the polls in November, and more importantly - in 2024.

The Republican Party of course hates the focus on "these lies."

She wants to move on from the events of that day in January, and if possible, would erase the memory of Americans through a miracle pill ahead of the midterm elections in November, then the loyalty of her electorate will be tested.

Democrats hope the new information will help them recruit voters who are dissatisfied with President Biden's conduct so far, and may also be "swinging" voters who are unsure about their political affiliation.

However, even after last night's shaky hearing, it seems that Trump still has a large enough influence over Republican voters, and that his "big lie" theory is expected to be further strengthened by November with all those lawmakers still believing that even he is no longer the world's most powerful president. , Trump can build or destroy their careers.
