Defense officials warn today (Sunday) that Iran and Hezbollah are making efforts to smuggle weapons and technology into civilian flights, to make it harder to monitor and damage equipment.

The remarks were made against the background of the attack on Damascus International Airport, which was attributed in foreign publications to the Air Force.

Without referring to those responsible for the attack, the sources noted that contrary to reports - this is not the first time that Damascus International Airport has been attacked so that the runways and space have been damaged.

According to them, there have been similar attacks in the past designed to prevent arms smuggling.

In recent years, Iran has been conducting a ramified

system of smuggling weapons, ammunition, drones, drones, industrial components and advanced technologies into Syria, in an attempt to evade Israeli intelligence.

And to Hezbollah operatives, who in turn transferred the weapons to Beirut and other Shiite-based bases throughout Lebanon, however, according to foreign publications, Israel decided to intercept the shipments and attacked the equipment even before it was handed over to the militias.

Subsequently, the Iranians tried to smuggle weapons through convoys of trucks through Iraq to Syria, but even then, according to foreign publications, Israeli special forces ambushed them in the heart of the area - and sometimes on the border between Syria and Lebanon, just before crossing the trucks - and attacked combat equipment.

According to security sources, Iran has since dramatically reduced smuggling - both through planes landing at Syrian army bases and through the land axis - due to hundreds of attacks in recent years under the command of outgoing Air Force Commander Major General Amikam Nurkin.

Sources do not rule out the possibility that the Iranians will try new land routes in the future to deceive Israeli intelligence.

Senior IDF officials estimated in closed forums that although Syrian President Bashar Assad is in dialogue with moderate Sunni states and hears from them intentions to invest in repairing the damage of the Syrian civil war, at this point, as long as he has failed to stabilize its borders and overcome all major opposition , He still sees himself as committed to Iran and Hezbollah who support him through commanders, fighters, money, and weapons. In return, he allows them to operate in large parts of Syria as they wish.
