A Nevada woman has lost her bid in a US court to force international soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo to pay her millions of dollars, on top of the $375,000 she was paid for her silence after accusing him of raping her in Las Vegas in 2009.

Federal Judge Jennifer Dorsey dismissed the lawsuit as a sanction against the woman's attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, for acting "in bad faith" and using "stolen" confidential documents, facts that according to the judge irremediably affect the case.

Dorsey said in his 42-page ruling that dismissing a case without the possibility of refiling is a serious penalty, but he also said Stovall's conduct hurt Ronaldo.

"I consider that the obtaining and use of these documents was in bad faith and the mere disqualification of Stovall will not remedy the damage to Ronaldo because the ill-gotten documents and their confidential content have been incorporated into the very fabric of (the plaintiff's) claims. Kathryn) Mayorga", says the ruling.

"This deserves serious sanctions."

Stovall did not immediately respond to phone and email messages seeking comment on the decision.

His associate Larissa Drohobyczer also did not respond.

The ruling is appealable.

Ronaldo's Las Vegas attorney, Peter Christiansen, was traveling and was unavailable for comment.

Earlier this year, Dorsey announced she was ready to end the case after Stovall missed a procedural deadline in her lawsuit for more than $25 million in damages based on allegations that Ronaldo or his associates violated an agreement. of confidentiality of 2010 by letting some details of the incident appear in European publications in 2017.

Ronaldo's legal team blamed the leak on reports of documents from law firms and other entities in Europe being hacked and put up for sale.

Christiansen also alleged that the information was altered or fabricated.
