Legislative results 2022: the majority struggles to define a clear voting instruction in the event of a Nupes / RN duel

2022-06-12T20:08:48.498Z

Unlike the Minister for Europe Clément Beaune, who calls for blocking Marine Le Pen's party, the executive favors a “case by case” approach depending on the origin of the left-wing candidate.

The first differences appear.

Sunday evening, the Minister Delegate for Europe, Clément Beaune, announced his voting instructions for the second round of the legislative elections.

In the constituencies where the presidential majority would not be qualified and would thus leave room for a duel between the Nupes and the National Rally, the tenant of the Quai d'Orsay enjoins to vote for the union of the left.

An instruction that he gives on an individual basis, since it differs from the message transmitted by the executive.

The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, herself did not hold this speech.

During a speech of a few minutes, the leader of the majority - who qualified in her constituency - argued "

social progress

" carried by the majority.

And regretted "

the unprecedented confusion between the extremes

", without specifying the option to be favored for orphan Macronist voters.

"I don't want a blocked country"

In the process, the executive indicated that the instructions would be given "

on a case-by-case basis

", the clashes between the Nupes and the RN not being "

a massive national phenomenon

" but rather a reality in "

a handful of constituencies

".

Locally, the representatives of the majority will therefore adapt their message and take into account the candidate invested by the union of the left.

In other words, a socialist or an ecologist will not be put in the same category as an Insoumis, considered to be of the extreme left.

For his part, Clément Beaune therefore assumed a different discourse, and attempted a balancing act.

Because if he calls for favoring left-wing candidates over those of the RN, he also castigates their project.

And for good reason.

Qualified in the 7th district of Paris with 34.7% of the vote according to the latest Ifop-Fiducial estimates, he is preparing himself to face Nupes, carried by Caroline Mecary, who came first (39.5%).

"

We are the only ones who can have a majority of action

", thus defended Clément Beaune.

At the same time denouncing the “

tremendous risk

” that Jean-Luc Mélenchon's policy would entail, particularly in European matters.

"

I don't want a country that goes back on such fundamental things, I don't want a country that is blocked

," he argued.

A position that obviously does not prevent him from favoring the faces of the left when they face those of the nationalist right.
