Some 2.2 tons of cocaine, hidden in boxes of asparagus and which was to be transported by sea to the Netherlands, were seized, Peruvian police said on Saturday.
Seven Peruvians were arrested and arrest warrants were issued against two Albanian nationals, according to the same source.

"We seized 2.2 tons of cocaine which was to be transported by sea to Rotterdam, in the Netherlands"
from the port of Callao, near Lima, Colonel César Echevarría, chief executive, told AFP. drug.
He said the operation was led by two Albanian nationals.
"It's a network with links in Colombia, Ecuador and Albania

Since the beginning of the year, the Peruvian police have seized around 35 tons of drugs.
Peru is one of the world's largest producers of cocaine, with some 400 tons per year, according to official data.
