Spider-Man was announced as a character in Marvel's Midnight Suns game

Over the past weekend he hosted the festive Summer Game Fest event where we were exposed to quite a few trailers for existing games and new announcements.

One of the trailers presented to us was a cinematic trailer for the game

Marvel's Midnight Suns

- an XCOM-style-tactics-but-with-characters-Marvel game, in which we were introduced to the Spider-Man character.

Because the new Marvel's Midnight Suns is a third-party title developed for all platforms, including PCs, PlayStation 4, 5 and Xbox Series X \ S consoles, this is a very interesting situation,

mainly because to this day we have the impression that only Sony has the ability to use In the form of the spider man.

After all, Sony has the exclusivity over Spider-Man, and the 2018 game (along with the Miles Morales expansion) was considered exclusive to the PlayStation (until recently announced for the PC).

Nor should one go too far back to recall that Spider-Man joined the Avengers game from Sqaure Enix, and remained as an exclusive character.

The game was launched at the same time as the PC and Xbox, but they did not get to enjoy the crawling of the walls even when the full game was in sets or reached Game Pass.

All expansion packs have been released with all the characters, and a situation has arisen where it seems that Spider-Man simply stays out of the reach of players who do not have a Sony console.

Now it's clear to us that this is not necessarily the case, and a new interview with

Jake Solomon

, the senior developer from Firaxis (the developer of the game and the XCOM series today) explains that they did not have any problems when they wanted to bring Spider-Man to the Xbox console in the current game: "He's going to be on Xbox. There's no problem with that."

"It would be nice to develop the first game where his character also appears on Xbox for a long time. Spadey has always been part of the game's character team in our planning, and we have not encountered any opposition from Marvel about it. I never got the impression that adding Spider-Man to the game is going to be an obstacle." .

One of the other surprises was

that Spider-Man's character in Marvel's Midnight Suns will be voiced by Yuri Leventhal - the same actor who played Spider-Man in Sony's exclusive games.

For all those wondering if this is the same character and the same universe, then no.

The developers have already indicated that it will be a completely different character, and they were just looking for "an actor who sounds like Peter Parker," and it seems that Wentell suited the role, and you can understand them.

He performed his role in an amazing way.

Even better than any live action version we have received to date, for my personal taste.

Guest appearances in side games is not enough

The veterans among us can remember that until 2014, Spider-Man was owned by Activision.

During its time the games went out to all consoles, including games and versions for Gameboy and DS.

It was not a perfect period and the games knew many ups and downs, but players from all consoles could enjoy a variety of titles.

Some are amazing and pioneers on their way, some less so.

The character's last solo game under Activision was The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was based on the movie of the same name, considered a straw that broke the camel's back for Marvel, and immediately followed the story we reported last month, in which Marvel decided to part with Activision, And it was this Xbox that refused an offer to make Spider-Man an exclusive title, an offer that eventually went to Sony and it was the one that won.

Since then, Spider-Man has not been available for a single-player adventure for PC or competing console players.

Spider-Man did appear in various Marvel Lego games, or even as a grinding figure in Fortnite (which surprisingly featured cool Web-Swing mechanics. Probably better than Marvel's Avengers), or in the 2019 Ultimate Alliance 3 game for Nintendo Switch.

Not to mention that the disappointment with Marvel's Avengers and Spadey's exclusivity in this game are what made Marvel "hold captive" the character for one platform, then according to Jake Solomon they too seemed open to the idea and did not intend to stop it.

From Sony's side it seems to be a much more economical aspect, and of course it also calls for the announcement that Spider-Man and Miles Morales will be coming to the PC along with other exclusive titles.

So does that mean we'll see Spider-Man's game on the Xbox as well?

Wow, I wish.

But not really.

Spadey is exclusive to Sony, and he will remain so.

But that does not mean she will not share the character with computer players or third-party games of other keys in the future.
