The principal's shocking confession: The teacher gave a box to the student, but received backing from the teachers' organization | Israel today

The teacher who used violence against a student received pampering assistance instead of a letter of dismissal • "Teachers' organizations do not understand that protecting such teachers not only harms students but harms the status of teachers," wrote the former principal, Avishai Mizrahi

The teacher raised a hand against a student, but remained in the system:

a school principal said that his teacher punched the student, but instead of being fired he contacted the teachers' organization and received embracing legal assistance.

Avishai Mizrahi is a well-known educator, he ran schools and currently accompanies principals and educational staff in the Ministry of Education.

Today (Sunday) he revealed in a Facebook post a case that happened several years ago in which a teacher hit a student but was backed by the teachers' organization.

"It has been enough years for me to tell this, without stepping on bare nerves," he wrote.

"I was a young principal then. My teacher hit a student, a punch to the chest of the skinny (and undisciplined) student. Raising a hand is a red line. It was not even a one-time stumble. He had a few more no-entry exits. (By the way, only the student's parents can contact the police, but they felt sorry for the teacher and relied on the Ministry of Education, which is a mistake).

"The teacher immediately turned to the teachers' organization and received embracing legal assistance. I found myself in great embarrassment at the hearing at the Ministry of Education. I will not mention here the high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Education who were present at the hearing. The teacher immediately returned to work as usual and dragged us for another three years that he was stuck in the system without any ability to get it out. "We understand that protecting such teachers not only harms students but harms the status of teachers. Protecting teachers who are tired and worn out and lacking in strength and abilities - harms not only the students but the vast majority of hardworking and industrious teachers and idealists who do sacred work."

According to him, Yaffa Ben-David and Ran Erez's struggle to raise teachers' salaries is unparalleled.

"But the stubbornness not to include in the emerging reform also necessary changes to refresh the system is sinful to the truth, sinful to the students and sinful to the teaching community and the class they deserve."

In the excellent case it is the teachers' organization that represents the teachers in the high schools.

Recall that in the negotiations between the Ministry of Finance and the Teachers' Union (representing kindergarten, elementary and middle schools), Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman demands that school principals be able to fire teachers who are not suitable for the position, as this is almost impossible today.

The teachers' organization's response will be provided when received.
