Authorities in California are conducting investigations to determine why the driver of a pickup truck veered off a sidewalk and struck nine people Saturday in the Los Angeles community of Westlake.
The incident left six people injured, including two children, according to the LAPD's Central Traffic Division.

The other three people involved in the crash refused to be sent to a hospital, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Authorities also specified that the man was driving a black 2001 Ford F-150 pickup.
"Apparently, he believed a gun was being pointed at him, causing him to drive off the road and strike victims," said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.
"Right now [the investigation is] very preliminary. It will be a long investigation," Eisenman added.

According to the initial information from the authorities, the driver, the passenger and all the pedestrians involved suffered minor injuries.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 8:36 am to 647 Alvarado Street, near MacArthur Park.
