The former CEO of Amazon in Mexico is accused of paying $ 9,000 in 2019 to two hired killers to kill his wife while the two were in the middle of a divorce.

Avril Perez Sagon was shot in the head in 2019 while sitting in a car stopping at a red light in Mexico City. Two of her children and a lawyer.

Juan Carlos Garcia is considered a successful businessman. He was appointed CEO of Amazon in Mexico in 2014 when the company opened its first country office, and served in that position until 2017, when he joined the trading company Electra.

Garcia fled a few days after the murder from Mexico to the United States, and Interpol issued an arrest warrant in 190 countries.

One of the assassins testified in court that Garcia offered him an additional $ 2,500 if his wife was murdered before a planned hearing in court regarding allegations of murder she made against her husband in the past, the newspaper Al Pais reported.

The couple were in the process of divorcing when Perez accused her husband of attempting to "murder women", the murder of a woman due to her gender, and claimed that he beat her cruelly with a baseball bat while she was sleeping.

In photos circulated on social media, Perez was seen covered in blood apparently after her husband attacked her.

Garcia was detained for ten months.

But a judge later reduced the charge to domestic violence - and he was released.

Prior to the murder, Perez, who issued a restraining order against Garcia, flew to Mexico City from the new state of Leon (Nuevo Leon) to undergo a mental assessment in a court order regarding a lawsuit she filed against her husband, al-Pais reported.

Garcia claimed innocence and reportedly sent a letter to Mexico City officials in 2019 denying his involvement in the attack.

Perez's relatives believe Garcia is responsible for her murder.

"The attack was aimed at her. He was the only enemy she had in her life," a relative told El Pais.
