This summer, the transport budget will weigh heavily on the wallets of French people going on vacation by car.

Week after week, fuel prices remain at high levels, and even continue to rise.

Last Friday, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, published on Monday, fuel prices remained at a high level.

In detail, the liter of diesel reached 2.0694 euros, on average.

An amount up by eleven cents compared to the previous Friday.

The SP95 also continues to increase, at 2.1309 euros, as well as the SP95-E10, at 2.096 euros, and the SP98, at 2.1989 euros.

These three fuels are up three cents in a week.

Gasoline thus reached a new record on Friday.

Diesel, on the other hand, remains slightly below the peak reached in mid-March, at 2.14 euros per litre.

But the current dynamic is worrying: in two weeks, the diesel bill has soared by 24 cents.

In addition, this is the third time that this fuel has exceeded the two euro per liter mark since the beginning of the year.

The refueling bill is closely scrutinized by motorists, and more particularly by heavy riders who have to use their vehicle to go to work, travel or consume on a daily basis.

The final cost has exploded since the end of 2021, and more particularly since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine.

In six months, the average cost of a liter of diesel has increased by 53 cents, and that of SP95-E10 by 48 cents.

A problem seen across Europe

These worrying developments are weakening the purchasing power of households, already hit by inflation, which affects a large number of everyday products and services.

The protection of the portfolio of the French has moreover imposed itself as a central subject of the presidential and legislative campaigns.

The various political parties wishing to take over the National Assembly each have proposals for reducing the cost of refueling: the Nupes thus suggests "

immediately blocking the prices of basic necessities

", including petrol, when the executive favors a discount per litre.

This, which reduces an already massive bill, was to end on July 31, but it should be extended in August, as confirmed by Emmanuel Macron.

In addition, the executive is working on a device specifically targeting “

big rollers

”, and which should come into force “

from this fall

”.

The rise in fuel prices is not specific to France: in the United States, the bill has reached a historic high, the American Automobile Association (AAA) recently warned.

A gallon of gasoline costs, on average, five dollars, and that of diesel, 5.7 dollars.

In Europe, prices vary greatly from one country to another, from simple to double.

On average, the liter of SP95 increased by twelve cents between mid-May and the beginning of June, exceeding the 2.3 euro mark in five Member States.

At 2.1 euros on average, France ranked eighth, as of June 6, for the SP95, and seventh for diesel.
