After a rowdy campaign, the former Minister of National Education failed to qualify for the second round of the legislative elections in the 4th constituency of Loiret.

But Jean-Michel Blanquer does not intend to turn the page so quickly.

Invited on BFMTV on Monday, the ex-minister indicated that he wanted to file a "legal appeal on this election".

“Candidate Nupes in my constituency behaves outrageously all the time.

His verbal violence is extreme, he attacked me several times in an unacceptable way, ”he detailed on the air, referring to his rival, member of the left-wing coalition, Bruno Nottin.

The latter came second in the ballot with 19.43% of the vote, far behind the candidate RN Thomas Ménagé (31.45%).

For his part, Jean-Michel Blanquer finished in third position, reaching 18.89% of the vote.

Only 189 votes separate the former minister from the Nupes candidate, depriving him of accession to the second round.

A “very disappointing” defeat for the former Minister of National Education who, incidentally, castigated a campaign of “hate coming from the far left” and “illegal” electoral practices, justifying, according to him, an appeal.

“A very strong danger of radicalism”

"I will take legal action on this election because the candidate who passed me with 180 votes violated several electoral rules during the campaign," he said, pointing to "Facebook posts that are [eraia] nt sponsored towards voters” or an “imitation of leaflets” parodying those of the presidential majority candidate.

“We have candidates at the two extremes who believe that everything is allowed.

This must be denounced and that is obviously what I intend to do.

There is a very strong danger of radicalism for France, but more generally for democracy in Europe and in the world", he judged, before calling on voters to mobilize in the second round "for the parties of government and against extremes".

The former minister had a rowdy campaign, where he was constantly attacked on his record at National Education, and was sprayed with whipped cream on a market by two angry teachers.

The fourth constituency of Loiret, centered on Gâtinais, was left vacant by outgoing deputy Jean-Pierre Door (LR).

Aged 80, the latter had decided not to run after four consecutive terms.
