The special assize court combined this sentence with a security period of two-thirds, ie twenty years during which this 40-year-old former repeat offender will not be able to benefit from any release.

Faced with an empty box, the court sentenced two other defendants, Anis Bahri, 38, and Abderrahmane Ameuroud, 44, to the same sentence.

They have all three systematically refused for the past three weeks to appear at the hearing, which has been open since May 13.

At first instance, in April 2021, Réda Kriket, Anis Bahri and Abderrahmane Ameuroud were sentenced to 24 years in prison.

The prosecution, which had claimed life against them, had appealed.

This sentence of life imprisonment, combined with a security period of 22 years, was again requested during the appeal trial against the three members of this jihadist cell which, according to the prosecution, was preparing "

to massacre a part of the population

”.

How many victims were targeted

”?

On March 24, 2016, two days after the attacks in Brussels, an arsenal of an "

unprecedented

" scale was discovered in an apartment that Réda Kriket rented under a false name in Argenteuil (Val-d'Oise).

"

Six Kalashnikovs, seven handguns, 33 chargers

", thousands of ammunition, "

i.e. a firepower three times greater than that of the attacks of November 13

", had assessed Advocate General Naïma Rudloff.

Explosives and 11,000 metal balls were also seized.

For the prosecution, this cell "

prepared attacks, coordinated and obviously directly linked to the Islamic State

".

The court ruling at first instance considered that “

no element

” made it possible to link the projects of this Argenteuil cell to IS.

It also noted that neither the nature of the attacks envisaged, nor the targets, nor the “

timing

” could be determined “

with precision

”.

"

The question that burns the lips is not when they were going to strike, where they were going to strike, the question is how many victims were targeted

", had launched Naïma Rudloff.

The reasons for the Assize Court ruling on the appeal were not known on Monday afternoon.

It is a verdict of fear.

Surely not that of Justice

, ”reacted Me Romain Ruiz, Abderrahmane Ameuroud's lawyer.

Two other men, who were charged with logistical support, were sentenced to eight and two years in prison respectively.
