Pope Francis will not celebrate Mass scheduled for Tuesday due to knee pain, the Vatican press office said in a statement Monday.
"Due to the limitations imposed on the pope by the gonalgia and the specific liturgical needs of the celebration, the Holy Mass and Procession with the Eucharistic Blessing will not be celebrated on the occasion of the feast of Corpus Domini," the statement said.
Pope Francis is forced to use a wheelchair due to knee pain
The pontiff has been suffering from knee pain for several months and on Friday the Vatican press office announced that he was "forced" to postpone his July visit to Africa.
On Sunday, the pope said he feels "great regret" for canceling this trip.
Addressing the people and authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan after his weekly Angelus prayer on Sunday, he said: "Due to problems with my leg, it is with great regret that I have had to postpone my visit to your countries, a trip planned for the first days of July, I am very sorry to have had to postpone this trip, which I still really want to do".
“I ask you to forgive me for this.
Let us pray together so that with God's help and with medical treatment, he can come to you as soon as possible.
We have hope,” he added.
