Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Anna Yevstigneeva stressed that Western countries seek to preserve their areas of influence in Africa instead of solving the region's problems.
Russia Today website quoted Yevstigneeva as saying during a Security Council meeting on the situation in Mali, "There is someone who is fighting terrorism correctly with the help of the so-called democratic partners, and on the other hand they say that someone is fighting terrorism with excessive cruelty and even cooperating with Russia," explaining that there is only one answer. It is that the West preserves its spheres of influence instead of helping Africans solve their problems.
"We regret that in order to put pressure on Mali, external players use channels of influence in multilateral organizations, including the G5 Sahel," Yevstigneeva added.
