Will Israel join the aid?

Ukraine has applied to Israel for a loan of half a billion dollars, Israel Today has learned.

In Jerusalem, they confirmed that the request had been accepted and was indeed under discussion.

The request was submitted by Ukrainian Prime Minister Dennis Shmigel.

In a letter sent ten days ago, Ukraine is asking for a loan on favorable terms to deal with the catastrophic consequences of the war on its economy.

According to Ukraine's Statistics Service, the country's GDP fell in the first quarter of 2022 by 15.1% compared to the same period last year. According to IMF forecasts, Ukraine's economy is expected to shrink by 30% to 45% by the end of the year.

Shimon Briman, an expert on Israel-Ukraine relations, told Israel Today: "Many countries in the world have already allocated loans to Ukraine. For example, Japan has allocated $ 600 million with a 30-year loan period, of which a 10-year grace period, at 1% interest. Luxembourg allocated a loan of 250 million euros, Germany 300 million euros, Canada 800 million dollars.

"Ukraine, which is fighting for freedom and independence, is now comparing itself to Israel in the War of Independence of 1948. Intellectuals and intellectuals in Ukraine say: 'We must build the Israel of Eastern Europe - strong and free.' "For the just struggle for the survival of the nation of 40 million people, but you will also see that Israel has chosen the right side in the fight against dictatorship and barbarism."

The Prime Minister's Office said that the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel had forwarded a request on behalf of the Ukrainian prime minister regarding a request for assistance.

The ambassador received confirmation of receipt of the letter and was informed that the reply would be returned after the matter had been examined.
