A group of Syrian and Russian experts reviewed a series of lectures for students of the Graduate Studies Department at Damascus University and the Graduate Center

For the restoration of historical and archaeological buildings and city centers in the Fakhri Al-Baroudi Center, the methodology of study and preservation of cultural heritage used by the Center for Salvation Archeology at the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the presence of the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban.

In a statement to SANA, the Dean of the Faculty of Architectural Engineering, Dr. Oqba Fakush, explained that the meeting included discussing the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe in Palmyra to make it better than it was in cooperation with Syrian national cadres and expertise using high-level technologies.

Fakosh stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of cultural heritage protection, especially archaeological heritage, strengthening scientific and cultural ties between the two friendly countries, expanding horizons of joint exchange between students and professors, in addition to holding workshops with the participation of Syrian and Russian students.

For her part, Deputy Director of the Institute of Material History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Natalia Solovyova, praised the work of the Faculty of Architecture at Damascus University, especially in the field of postgraduate studies, pointing to the provision of cooperation by providing Syrian students with technological techniques, given the difficulty students face in obtaining modern tools. As a result of the economic sanctions imposed on Syria.

The lectures included introducing the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture to the departments in the faculty and gave an overview of the Graduate Studies Center for the Restoration of Buildings and the Centers of Historic and Archaeological Cities in Damascus and presented pictures of the center’s projects, activities and students’ work since its establishment. The students also participated in the progress of their projects and ideas about the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe in Palmyra.

It is noteworthy that the series of lectures comes on the sidelines of the fourth Syrian-Russian joint meeting to follow up on the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons.
