Former US President Donald Trump has denied allegations by the investigative committee about the storming of the US Capitol in a multi-page document.

Trump accused the committee on Monday evening (local time) of making “justice a laughingstock” and excluding exonerating witnesses.

In the twelve-page letter, which also contains a number of footnotes, Trump repeated his unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud and fantasies of election victory.

He accused the Democrats and US President Joe Biden of destroying the country.

"The Democrats (...) are doing everything in their power to stop me - but we cannot be stopped," it said.

At the second public hearing of the committee of inquiry on Monday, several high-ranking people from Trump's environment had firmly contradicted his allegations of voter fraud.

Former government officials and campaign advisors have clearly distanced themselves from Trump's actions.

Ex-Attorney General William Barr and others have called Trump's fraud allegations "insane."

Barr said Trump had increasingly "lost touch with reality."

Trump claims to this day without any evidence that he was deprived of victory in the 2020 presidential election by electoral fraud.

Opposition to the outcome of the election culminated in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Congress met there to certify Biden's election victory.

Five people died as a result of the riots.

Trump had recently incited his supporters at a rally that his election victory had allegedly been stolen.

He then had to face impeachment proceedings, at the end of which he was acquitted.

Ivanka Trump contradicts her own father

For months, the investigative committee questioned hundreds of witnesses behind closed doors and sift through large amounts of documents and evidence.

The panel is now revealing its findings in a series of public hearings.

Some Trump confidants, such as former chief strategist Steve Bannon, refused to cooperate with the committee.

The committee also showed the video recording of an interview with Trump's daughter Ivanka.

When asked about Barr's statements, she said his assessment had an impact on her perspective.

You respect Barr.

"So I accepted what he said." She clearly contradicts her father's untruths.

The next public hearing of the committee of inquiry is scheduled for this Wednesday.

The committee intends to publish a final report in September.

Despite the never-ending scandals, Trump is considered the clear favorite of his party for a renewed nomination for the White House fight in 2024.

The midterm elections are coming up this year, which are traditionally seen as a kind of interim report for the incumbent president and his party.

The Democrats fear for their narrow majorities in the US Congress.
