With the aim of building capacity on assessing the gaps in the compatibility of wage policy with the principles of social justice, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor held today a national training workshop in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA” at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.

Representatives of the public and private sectors will participate in the workshop, and its topics include, over a period of three days, a guide to integrating principles of social justice into the processes of setting development plans and policies, the roles of social partners in achieving justice, and identifying strengths and gaps in the areas of knowledge and skills required in the processes of designing and evaluating social policies.

Director of the Directorate of Labor in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Mahmoud Damrani explained to SANA that the workshop’s goal was to provide technical support for preparing a national report on wage policies and determining the conditions necessary to benefit from them, pointing out the importance of conducting an assessment of wage policy and conditions in light of the economic and social challenges facing Syria, which arose from the siege. The imposed economic situation, which has had a negative impact on the standard of living of the Syrian citizen, especially the working class.
